I am confused! (noob question)

Hey guys so i am a new 04 g35 5AT owner and i am really confused about alot of stuff ( i am also new to modding cars )

so if i remember it says that my car has 280 hp.
but after reading alot of dyno's i rarely see over 280 hp unless with alot of mods or FI.
can someone clear it all up for me.
sorry for the noob question, i will keep looking for other threads.
thanks

car engine is rated 280 but what it puts down on the ground aka WHP is much less because of drivetrain loss and other variables such as weight etc.

crank HP vs Rear wheel HP. The G35 is no different than any other car with that regard.

Thats how much power the ENGINE is making, from the crank. This is from a dyno where there is no car at all, just an engine sitting there with no wheels or any unnessacary parts attached.

From the engine on the actual car, it still has to go through a couple different parts, like spinning the driveshaft, axles, and wheels.

To put in basic terms, think of a basketball and a 5lb. medicine ball on the ground. You can spin the basketball really easy and fast. But to spin the medicine ball, you can use the same amount of power but since it is heavier, there is gonna be some power lost which is why the ball spins slower. Get it?

and because you chose an automatic you pay the price of even more drivetrain loss
