Overlays look tacky and ugly, so I say no.

 

looks a lot cleaner Id say do it, besides if you dont like you could always take them off

 

Looks good, but check this idea out. I like how it looks with out the small LED rows, non-visible during the day. BUT it would be sick if the lit up while the brake lights are on.

So I say ask BlueBat if he can custom make one for you where it is the overlay with the holes for the small LED's and then just tint those so they are only visible when the brake lights are on. That's what I would do anyway.
