Exhaust Tone

I wanted to know where do you guys get the distinct exhaust tone? Is it all in your pipes? engine? both? mufflers? I am asking this because i own a subaru and wanted to know if i could just get the stock catback off of a G35 and put it on my car and get the same exhaust tone as what you guys get.

sorry unless you change your engine to a VQ you wont be able to get the tone that g35s do. but then again we cant get the subaru sound either if that makes you feel better.

my previous car was a wrx...

the rumble you get out of the wrx is because its a boxer motor and it has unequal length headers.

the tone you get out of the g35 is purely just the VQ. it can't be replicated with any other motor. there's no way in hell you would even fit a g35 exhaust on a wrx or vice versa.

enjoy that boxer rumble...both cars sound unique and awesome!

LOL, Why would you want to change the boxer rumble? It is a beautiful thing on its own, I know b.c I own a G and 2 Subies. The rumble in my RSTi shakes the dishes in the kitchen when it is in the garage The G is totally different and also is one of my favorite sounds, but you can't make one sound like the other, sorry.

It's the exhaust. It won't sound right on a Subaru unless you replace your headers with equal length.

thanks for all the replys! What do you guys think the sound would be like if i got the pipes and bent them to fit my exhaust layout? Well i want that cause it is stock looking and i love the sound of it. The cops have been cracking down here in CA so i got rid of my other catback.

Unless you changed your header it would sound like it does right now for the most part.

A combination of the G coupe exhaust tone and a rumble could be interesting...

So the sound has nothing to do with the exhaust at all? Hm, how much is the coupe/sedan catback used? And how hard do you think it is to bolt/weld these?

i guess i stand corrected by that video...that still has me thinking. no motor swap? i'm pretty sure if i swapped the stock exhaust off a ferrari it wouldn't sound anything like it. what gives...

anything is possible with the right tools and skills if you want to rig this up. but it might cost you more than you think for a custom job like this. i personally think your insane.
