Double Din or replace with OEM unit.

Peeps--

After I got the CD ERR message on my cd player, I was convinced I was going to do the double din conversion and get a new Pioneer A/V unit (without Nav, cause I have it). However, after getting some quotes on the new unit, dash, and install, I was thinking it was getting to be a bit too excessive. The only reason I had originally wanted to covert to the double din was I heard that Infiniti Dealers were charging 500-600 to replace the CD player - figured I could throw in a little more and just bump up the whole system. However, I am now hearing that you can find a used BOSE OEM cd player for around $250 (tell me if I am way off).

Anyways, I am now considering just getting a new/used OEM and replacing it myself - however, I cannot find one anywhere.

Any thoughts on where to locate a new/used/refurb unit?

Any thoughts on if I'm being dumb and should go ahead and just do the double din for 1K? The extra 750 could go towards a decent 37" LCD.

$250-275 is about right for an operable OEM HU. Some members elect to hold on to theirs to reinstall it as their aftermarket HU will resell at a significantly higher rate.

i was in the same dillemma man. i went for a six-dvd unit and dont really regret it. i spend 1200 total, the only thing i regret is not paying for the high end bezel, instead i ended up with the one most people get for like 180-200$ where the buttons look cheaper.

it's really up to you. i would sell you my old oem stereo, but if i ever get rid of the car, i wanna put the stock back in.

it's up to you man, if you want the screen, go for it. honestly, i dont use the screen much but i have it.... hahaha

I went with a DD...I liked it but it was a bit of a pain getting the whole dash kit and everything. I ended up selling it cause I didn't really use it that much.
