M3 saga - Its official, I did it again!!!

For all of you who didn't believe me the first time, I just beat a tiptronic M3 near beverly hills. He got a jump off the line and I was like oh [censored]; but I actually slowly reeled him in and I was ahead by the end of 3rd gear. We slowed for a corner and then romped on it again in the top of second and I was ahead just as I shifted into 4th.

I love this effin car!!!!

The doubt and shiit-talking can now begin.

GO!

I wouldn't doubt it at all with the mods you have and considering hes SMG. My buddy has an SMG M3, and it does feel very fast indeed, but my friends who has a 350z with intake, exhaust, headers and pully took him pretty decently, so I would imagine you would be somewhere between the two. I beleive the SMG M3s are no more than 1/2 a second quicker than a g35 stick, so im sure his mods could make up for that 1/2 second. Now if you were stock, then you would be gettin flamed. nice job bro.

Also, the SMG version of the M3 has 10 less horsepower than the stick version. 333 and 343. My friend said it's because of the computer chip that controls the shifting can't handle it or something like that. Nice win steve.

Sorry, but I must disagree with that last statement. There is a US Spec E46 M3 and a European Spec E46 M3. ALL US Spec E46 M3's have the SAME 333 horsepower rating. Infact, with the launch control enabled (in S6 mode), the SMG should be able to beat the average driver in an E46 six speed.

301-bhp!!! ...and growing!

Re: M3 saga - Its official, I did it again!!!

I remember reading a test where they did a 1/4 test between all the m3 variants. I'm went something like:

coupe 6-speed 13.5-13.7
coupe smg 13.6-13.8
vert 6 speed 13.8-14.0
vert smg 13.9-14.1

I'll see if I can find the article.

weight for coupe is 3415lbs
weight for 'vert is 3781lbs
both of these specs are from the bmwusa.com website

The convertible is pretty heavy, so a coupe would maybe have a chance if it was modded. I don't think people realize just how heavy the convertible m3 actually is.

Ok, here we go!! I can believe you were "close" but I dunno, anything's possible I guess. I own and drive a G35 and love it, but also LOVE the M3 even more. Two of my friends have M3's, one SMG and 6speed, given a good to great driver in the 6spd it has a large edge over the SMG, both blow me out and im auto with some mod's so I dont expect to be anywhere near them. Anyway, here are some times from R&T.
SMG
0-60 5.0 0-100 12.0 1/4 mile 13.5 sec @105.8 mph
6Spd
0-60 4.7 0-100 11.6 1/4 mile 13.2 sec @ 109 mph

G35 Coupe
0-60 5.6-8 0-100 14.5-8 1/4 mile 14.1-4

And yes all 3 the SMG,Stick and Cab all have 333 HP! Good job if you did man, you beat my dream car Martin

Re: M3 saga - Its official, I did it again!!!

I raced my friend in his 98 M3 just last night. The first time he got me by like a foot to about 60mph. Next I got him by a little more than a car. Then the third time I got him by a few feet. I was really intimidated since this was the first time i raced his m3, but now i know i can hold my own and it comes down to who is the better driver.

Re: M3 saga - Its official, I did it again!!!

You guys know what.. I drove a new M3 that we just got at our dealership. 01 Convertible 6 speed... Honestly, I wasn't at all that impressed. Doesn't have a sport shift feel to it and it feels as fast as the coupe, not faster! The Nav also sucked on it... hard to control and not very many options. I am not going to deny, it was fun to drive and push to the limits. But the bottom line when it comes to the M3. You are paying for a car worth $40K. The other portion of the charge goes to the name "BMW."
