Real Quick: Manual Trans and diff fluid change

My factory service manual mentioned a copper washer (like the oil filter plug) to be use when you change the Manual tranny and differential fluids. Did you guys reuse the gasket when you change the fluids? The dealer wanted $3.50 a piece!!!! I believe the the filler and drain plug of the tranny as well as the drain plug for the differential needs one, total of 3.

If you have another vehicle handy, remove that washer and take it to a store like Home Depot or Lowes and match up a washer. They are usually like 5 cents a piece. I did that with my last car and never had any problems.

Just be sure to get the copper ones so they can crush and form a good seal.

They're not a heavy use item. I'd prolly reuse the washers and make sure they don't leak somewhere down the road.

Did you call up the Service Dept. and see what they say about re-using them? If you need them replaced, do yourself a favor and get them at the dealer, not HOME DEPOT!

I do agree, they overcharge for things you can find at a hardware store. For instance, I paid $2.04 for a 2mm BOLT for my bike about 1 1/2 inches long at honda! $2 for a small bolt that was 27 cents at Home depot! I tried out the one from Home Depot, and within 2 days it snapped and I was stuck with a stripped screw on my cluster.

So just get the original washers from the dealer, you will be happy you did!
