what year is it? The gauge on the far right on the 05-07 is gas at least. I seriously hope that you know what a gas gauge is.

And how did someone at a gas station say that you needed coolant...

Depends on what year your car is...for me it's them temp gauge (I have an 03). But mine stays pretty consistent...so it may be your gas gauge? Not sure though...how often do you floor it?

Then you probably have a cracked radiator. I broke the one in my Jeep Grand Cherokee back in the day by htting a speed bump at 100+. My car never really overheated but I think it got hot enough to burn up all the oil, because my engine died a week later due to no oil .

When it happened, it wasn't very noticeable leak. It leaked the worst when I parked on a hill. No lights came on.

Is it smoking or doing anything like that? If not it may be a faulty sensor, or bad thermostat...get it checked out by someone.

Take it in to a dealer or a trusted mechanic...since you are not getting any of the visual signs of overheating, then I am guessing its a faulty sensor, thermostat, etc...
