Redlining G 35 Coupe 6 MT
I pushed my coupe real hard today and the fuel cut off when I reached the red zone. Is it just me but I felt that I could go more on the lower gear before shifting if the chip was not in place.
Do you know if other close competitors to the G such as S 2000, RX-8, Audi TT are more aggressive in going into the red? Some people say that German cars are not restricted by those damn chips. It is a very unpleasant feeling to watch the tachometer and ruin the moment by concentrating on shifting before the engine cuts.I absolutely love the car and can not help but push it all the way once in a while.
Thanks for any input in advance.

Every modern car that I know, including the Germans (I own a Jetta) have an ECU chip that will protect you from blowing up your engine after certain RPMs. The limits might be different but they all protect you nonetheless. The Honda S2000 I think goes up to 9000 RPMs before the fuel cuts off.

It is really about engineers trying to get an engine to last a long time. By preventing over rev they are extending the life of the engine and to them that is a good thing. Technosquare's ECU replacement will give you another 600 rpms before cut off. What that does to the engine life? I don't know. Turbos and supercharges bring to mind the same question. If you drove your G like an old lady then how long would it last? Probably over 500k miles. But that is not the point is it. You want to get 500k miles of enjoyment out your engine in 120k miles.

Theres really no reason to rev it out that high. The VQ makes power down low and mid rpm's. Reving it out the 7grand will only stress out these stroker motors. If this was a straight 6 then it would be a different story. Shifting at 6500 rpms will put you right in the meat of the next gear anyways with the 6MT.

Actually, I don't think the VQ engine makes any power at lower rpm's at all. I mean, yeah it's got some power down low, in the middle, and up high, but there is like no torque down low, which is why this car just doesn't push you back in your seat when you floor it.
Raising the rev limiter isn't necessarily bad...most engines can rev much higher than what is limited. And the fuel cut-off/rev limiter are there to protect you. Just upshift @ 6,600rpm like you're supposed to and it will be fine.
