Oil the Weatherstripping??

I have noticed that when my window goes up and down when I open/close the door, it doesn't sound like its smoothly moving through the weatherstripping.

Should I just spray a little WD-40 on the weatherstripping to help it slide better? Is oiling that something you regularly do?

Absolutely not! That will just streak your window and make a gernal mess. Sounds like time for a warranty call.

take it in, they put some lubricant on the tracks of my old car windows and that seemed to do the trick.

Re: Oil the Weatherstripping??

I am only talking about the weatherstripping at the top (near the roof). The window goes up and down fine, but when you close the door and it goes up that 1/2 inch, it sounds like it isn't going in smoothly. I hear the same sound when I open the door.

The passenger door sounds fine, only the driver's door makes a strange rubbing noise. I thought putting a little WD-40 just in that area at the top of the door would help it slide in-out better.

you want this
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/1z-914805.html

your local BMW place carries it, but its $17 retail. This place will have it to you in about 3 days. This stuff is lasting much longer than 3m silicon spray. And its not nasty like silicon spray.

Just use Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber cleaner/protectant. It will keep your rubber moldings from drying out and cracking and should eliminate the noise you're hearing when the window travels the 1/2 inch when closing the door. I've been using it for the past 5 years on my BMW and now I use it on my G.
