So i got my headlights tinted, and i really hate how it looks. ive lived with it, but im really sick of it now. it looks different from all angles, clear at some, dark at others, and theres some runs. granted the guy was supposed to fix it but i never found the time to back up there to him.

What i want tot know is how much ballpark am I looking at to replace them with painted housings. Would it be cheaper to have the tint stripped or get new headlights? and how much for painting them? anyone in the atlanta area that could do it? thanks

 

from how u described it.. it sounds like they are painted? like tint in a rattlecan? if so why not just try some paint thinner on them?

You'll have to remove the tint chemically or mechanically. Paint thinner or sandpaper. Either method will probably require polishing the headlights back to a nice, translucent shine.

 

Stripping the tint off and polishing them to get them looking right again sounds like a whole lot of work, especially with having to bake them correctly to remove the lenses. If you just want to get new headlamps and start over I ordered the 06+ headlamps (I'm assuming those are the same for the 07) from Sewell Infiniti for $550 shipped. They came with all the bulbs as well. If I remember right it wasn't much less to get them without the bulbs, so you could just have some extras around in case one of yours burns out. Sewell Infiniti is a site sponsor and I dealt with a guy named Cody. They are in Dallas and had them to me in just a few days.

 

2 hours of work/5$ paint thinner > 550$ new headlights.

You don't have to bake the headlights to strip the tint off them, UNLESS the tint was applied on the inside of the lens. Most likely it wasn't though.

 

He said he hasn't even had the time to go back to get them fixed in the first place so I am assuming he doesn't have the time to do it himself. If the tint was applied to the outside it might not take very long, but if it is on the inside it will take a long time. When you count the time it will take to remove the headlights from the car, bake them, strip everything off, clean them, polish them, bake them again, and reinstall them, it will take a lot longer than 2 hours. He obviously has the option to do it himself, I was simply offering a suggestion if that is not what he wanted to do. Also, he did ask the cost of new headlights. Thanks for your input.

 

Im going to paint them myself this sunday. I just dont know how to get ride of the tint. Ive heard hairdryer, windex, and goo gone?

thanks man.. but im trying it out for myself with my friends this sunday. i just dont know how to strip the tint! i think it was a spray on because theres some runs.. so i figured id try peeling it off first if that doesnt work ill sand and buff

 

Mineral spirits. Its the safest chemical to use on plastic and wont etch or craze the plastic. Good luck!
