Guys, lets try to have a definitive discussion about just exactly how, why, and when to reset the G35's ECU. Don't chime in unless you REALLY know the answer to this.
Let's start with how. We have seen two popular methods: one involving doing a song and dance with the pedals, etc. And the other being quite simple involving disconnecting the battery for a period of time.
Questions are numbered so your replies should reference the numbers. This will allow us to answer specifically the questions you know the answers to.

1) What parameters are reset within the ECU?
2) Do the two methods mentioned above do exactly the same thing?
3) When should one reset their ECU?
4) If the pedal method and battery disconnect method DO in fact do exactly the same thing then what is the correct period of time the battery needs to be disconnected?
5) If one has aftermarket tuning done to the car, i.e. Cobb Accessport, UpRev Osiris, Technosquare, etc. is a ECU reset EVER necessary or possible damaging to the tuning?

The only one that's ever worked for me is the battery disconnect, like when
installing spacer or intake. (like the instructions say) I've tried the other
method, even had a stopwatch in hand to get the timing correct and it never
seemed to work....

So back to the original post, any idea if the method you used is different than the battery disconnect method?
I've done the pedal one several times and I've gotten good at it.. I'll get it on my first try every time..
The only difference I know of between the pedal dance and the battery disconnect is that the battery reset is supposed to be considered the "hard reset" whereas the pedal dance is considered the "soft reset"
The soft reset will only reset what the ECU has learned from your driving styles..
The hard reset will mess up your radio presets and I "think" your trip meter.

I've done the pedal one several times and I've gotten good at it.. I'll get it on my first try every time..

From what I've heard and read on several diffent car forums.. You leave the negative terminal for about 10 hrs, I've also heard 5 hrs.
As for why you do the negative terminal, I have no clue.

I only disconnect the positive. The negative is grounded directly to the car right next to my battery.
ECU Hardset....must be a morning thing! LOL
I've always done the negative side and have never left it off for more
than 2 hours. (spacer install) I suppose if you want to make sure everything
is cleared disconnect it at night and reconnect it in the AM. Now you can
set the clock and have fun finding all your favorite stations....again.

OK, I did the terminal disconnect for like an hour or so, went out connected it all up, started the car and let it run for about a minute.
Then I did the pedal reset and IT ACTUALLY WORKED. Pretty cool!

Pedal reset worked for me when passenger airbag light came on.
Reset it, and it never came back.
I rarely carry a passenger, so it seemed a safe risk to see if the error would come back.
I've never done the battery disconnect.
