A new owner with questions

Hello everyone,

I finally bought an 05 6mt coupe last Friday after long searching and a great help from the members of this forum, so thanks everyone.

Before buying the car I had it inspected by an infinit dealer and the report I got showed that the car is in a good condition with some minor problems. The things that need immediate attention are

Air Filter
Belts
Coolant Condition
Auto trans fluid
Differential fluid

I just called the dealer and asked him for an estimate of the price to fix these stuff and it was around $700 . I don't have that amount of money right now since I'm broke after paying for the car in cash

My question would be Is there anyway that I can check how critical these fixes are? any signal that I can sense while driving? and if they need to be fixed immediately, Is there anyway that I can fix them for a cheaper price with no reduction in quality? Because I have this feeling that official dealers are usually a rip-off

air filter is super cheap, do it yourself $15

belts are super easy to do and cheap $40, do it yourself

diff fluid takes 10 min to change for like $20, DIY again

the other 2 can probably wait a little while anyway

My dealer did the coolant, diff, and tranny drain and fill for $276 plus gave me a loaner while they did it. You might want to check another dealer or talk to a Nissan dealer to see if they are cheaper. If you don't mind doing some fairly easy work yourself you can take care of the filter, belt, and diff in your garage. Also, how many miles on on your car? By looking at the list of things that the dealer says need to be done it is kind of funny that they are all maintenance issues that are high profit for the dealer. Did they show you any of the fluids that they say need replacing to show you that in fact they do need to be replaced? These are all issues that customers usually take the dealers word for it without knowing for sure that it is an issue. Slow times = dealers suggesting more things needing to be done to cars. They may be completely legit but just make them prove it to you.

Wow, you gotta love Infiniti dealerships....:(

hani, ask the dealership that gave you that $700 quote if you have "Stupid"
written on your forehead. A Nissan dealership should be able to do the same
work/replacement for 1/2 of what you were quoted. You could easily do the
air filter swap yourself, most auto parts stores have them in stock....that's
just nuts! Only go to Infiniti stealerships when you need warranty work done!

The warranty doesn't cover maintenance items so it doesn't really matter if there is any of the warranty left.

^ yah it does, and who said its will be covered under the warranty? I just ask so if he still does, then he better off with Nissan's certified mechanic so it won't void his warranty. It's tranny and diff. fluid u know. Smart a$$.

Page 7 from the 2005 Infiniti Warranty Information Booklet:

MAINTENANCE SERVICE EXPENSE
This warranty does not cover normal maintenance services as
specified in your Owner’s Manual such as wheel alignment,
headlight aiming, replacement of filters, lubricants, coolant,
worn clutch discs and brake pads.

I wasn't trying to be a smart a$$. I know some companies have included maintenance for a certain period of time, but according to the book, Infiniti does not. That is the only point i was making. I thought you were asking from the standpoint of having those items covered under warranty.

Yeah I did see that so that is why I was a little confused, but it was just a case of me not understanding exactly what you meant. You were coming from the angle of having a dealer do the work to avoid warranty issues while I thought you were meaning those things were covered, my mistake. I honestly never try to be a smart a$$ to anyone on here (OK, unless they REALLY deserve it!).
