2003 G, need 1st mod help

Hey ya'll, I just picked up an 03 AT G (I know I know, I couldn't find a 6 sp). anyways, which mods should go 1st. I'm debating on Short ram vs CAI. Can someone explain the Z tube to me. Can you use this with a aftermarket Short ram? I've got around 5 hundred dollars to spend this month. Help me out

Thanks in advance
Kevin

Congrats on the ride! The best bang for you buck mod would be a motordyne spacer. Check out motordyneengineering.com. Intakes are mainly just for sound, you may eek out a few hp from them but don't expect a lot.

The z-tube is a less restrictive intake tube that comes stock on the 350z.

from everythingg35.com:
"The Z tube replaces the factory pipe between the Throttle Body and Mass air flow sensor. The stock G35 pipe has sound baffles and other features that the Z tube does not have. The Z tube will increase induction noise under WOT."

Ok, so I'm not really getting how the plenum spacer works, also where can I find a z tube? I found one by Stillen, which is the best. Also, which Plenum Spacer is the best. That website you gave me has like 8 different ones and do I need professional installation on those?

Thanks again
Kevin

Welcome to Driver....enjoy your new ride!

Marcus has the right idea, MotorDyne 5/16" spacer ISO but I'd also get the
Z-Tube and K&N drop in filter. That will complete the intake side of your
new ride. For further questions about exhaust systems, debadging and car
care try our SEARCH button....the answers are there.... Stillen makes good
replacement items for our cars, intakes/z-tubes and exhaust systems....

Thanks Gary, but where's this Search button I keep readin about

So, I'm getting the vibe to stay away from any type of aftermarket intake...This is opposite from what I heard with my last car (Mazda 6 S). I used a CP-E CAI and saw amazing gains.

How much do you estimate it would cost to have it installed at a shop? Does it make a sound difference? How will it affect my 2003 engine performance? Do I hav the 287 hp engine that the FAQ on Motordyne says will only add 2-6 hp? I'm officially confused...

Coastie, the reason for the plenum spacer is to correct a flaw Nissan
made in our engine design. The front ports don't get enough circulation
without the spacer. MotorDynes space is the best bang for you $$. You
can either go on line like Marcus suggested or call MotorDyne at 661-993-5111. If you're not comfortable installing the spacer yourself you could have
a qualified mechanic install....took me an hour but I'm a clean freak....LOL

Yeah I'm not really a motorhead. I'm good on bikes (I have an 07 Hayabusa) but ignorant when it comes to cars, go figure. So, right now I'm looking at getting a Stillen Z tube intake kit, A Motordyne basic Spacer and that's it for now. Gery, can you tell me approx how much HP/sound I'll gain from these? Is it worth it? Thanks for your quick replies, I'm ready to order right now, I just wanna make sure I'm getting the good stuff

How's this one: The Z-Tube / Intake Combo package is the affordable way to upgrade the entire intake tract, combining the Z-Tube (Part #402834) and Hi-Flow Intake (Part #402835) in one convenient part number. And I would add the Spacer to this as well. Sound good?

Dont expect much gain from either of those too. Unlike your old mazda these engines are almost perfect from the factory. With the spacer your should free up between 5 and 15 hp tops. Not too sure because I dont have the spacer yet either. But I would just get an OEM Z tube and a K&N filter. Thats what I currently have and I cant complain. You can get that stuff at www.EverythingG35.com.

Just ordered the Z tube, drop in K&N, and Spacer along with clear lights

Gonna be a good day Friday, I'll let ya'll know how it goes

I might get a CAI or a short ram in the future but from what I'm hearing it's a waste of money.

Definitely chose the best first mods. MD spacer really is the best bang for the buck, and gives the engine a nice growl under the hood IMO. Clear corners will add a nice look and at some point I would recommend some tint.
