two questions from a new guy

my firend has an 08 Mustang GT and he has purchased "new gears" (of course only one) my question is can you do the same for a G35? Both my friend and I have done research on the internet but have found nothing. Also I know my G35 is a Y pipe, my question is can I get an X pipe or a H pipe? and if so out of the three which ones the best or is it just down to prefernce?

EDIT I have a 03 6 speed coupe

What type of trans does your G35 have? If its a auto you can switch to the rear gears in a 6sp manual car. The auto has 3.3gears the 6sp has 3.6gears and if you have a 6sp car you can buy aftermarket gears the 3.9 is one of the most popular. As far as exhaust I think you can change out your Y pipe but a more efficent Y pipe is more common. To realize real gains a cat back exhaust is the way to go.

Here are a few mods to get you started. Not in any particular order.

1) Cold air intake. Injen, Nismo and Jim Wolf are all good brands
2) an intake plenum spacer. Skunk II and Motordyne are good
3) cat back exhaust. There are tons of options Stillen, Fast Intentions
4) Hi-Flow cats or Test pipes.
5) headers these are very expensive to have installed
6) an ECU reflash (sometimes called a "chip")will show nice gains when you have all of the above done. Up-rev is one of the more popular.

Lots of this stuff is availible used in the private classified market place and new in the vendor market place sections of this fourm.
I hope that helps

So will the gear size make a diffrence? if so is it a diffrence in speed or acceleration?

Acceleration is the advantage of gears. Its the same idea as your buddies Mustang. I never tried the steeper gears myself so I cant say if its an advantage or not but it should help.

Two answers from an "Old Guy!"

They sell gear sets for our G35/350Z and you can go lower (quicker off the line) or higher. (more top end) Exhaust systems, if you buy HKS or Stillen
dual system they come with either the crossover or h-pipe. If you're staying
with the OEM system that has it's own y-pipe a crossover pipe would be
useless/worthless aka a waste of time....

I agree with Gary.
To clarify the higher the gear ratio 3.9 the quicker out of the hole the lower the number 3.3 the more top end. It can be confusing because we typically say Higher gears when we mean the lower number and lower gears mean higher numbers I know when I talk about my buddies get confused when I say I have higher gears but I switched from 3.6 to 3.3.

Right....the lower the gear the better you'll come off the line, not to mention
how much quicker you'll go thru rear tires....

Ya you want 3.9 or 4.11 to get out of the hole quicker and improve acceleration. i think 3.9 is the most common gears for the 6sp G35s.

Not sure if you got it by the other explaining it, but higher final drive means a big jolt in acceleration, but your top speed is gonna go down. Personally, I think that's great, but I that's because I would much rather have it for just everyday driving and I don't really feel the need to be going 155mph.

I would get a spacer first, then save up for gears and a tune.

The 3.6 out of a 6mt car is a popular swap for 5at guys. The big horse power cars(500+whp) like the 3.3 the 5at comes with because they dont need help with down low accelaration they have traction problems in the first few gears so you can sometimes find a guy willing to do a straight across trade.
