Stock Cat backs good enough?

I was talking to a freind today about possibly getting the borla cat-back. My freind thought it would be a waste of money spending that much money on a cat-back when it really doesnt produce that much horse power and to just go with headers and a midpipe for exhuast power. My question is, is the stock catback good enough if i were to get aftermarket headers/midpipe and possible turbo and supercharger later down the road.

im not a big fan of borla but if you are gonna go FI later than cat back will help since it will flow more than the stock...if you want to save up just get some test pipes for now...

Re: Stock Cat backs good enough?

Measure the back pressure in each segment and the system as a whole [from front O2 sensors back].

For Roughly every 1 inch of HG = 1.0 HP is lost.

14.7 psi = 29.92"HG so 30 HP lost.

Not to say you can get to perfection since even a hollow exhaust system just pipes exiting to the rear might have a total of 4-5-6 psi ~~8-12HP.

Assume 26 HP lost and 8-11 HP minimum so you have 18-15 HP or so ===== variations depending on loudness and emissions [cat convertors] .

Man.. I love that mean sounding stock exhaust.. isn't there anything you can do to keep that sound while creating less backpressure? Just switch out the pipes?

i hear the borla sounds a lot like stock... ive never heard it in person tho... and i dont think sound clips are that great since its reving in neutral (not under load)

2004 Black on Black g coupe 6spd.... aluminum pedals, clear corners, z tube, and pop charger. soon to have 19" volk gt-c's and PIAA xtreme whites in the clearance and corners

Re: Stock Cat backs good enough?

You can get some Hi-Flow Cats, like I did.
The kinetix will let you keep the stock exhaust note and but make it a little deeper and very slightly louder.

At this point, I'm debating whether I should just get a Y-Pipe or go for a full exhaust.

Kinetix will be selling a Y-Pipe soon and it looks very promising. also the price is very right =)
