Road Trip (FL to OH) preperation

I'm planning on taking my G on a road trip from Florida to my old home state of Ohio in about 5 weeks and I'm looking for some suggestions on preparing for it. Obviously, I will have the oil changed soon before that and just had the tires rotated, but the one thing I am concerned about is protection from road debrit. Since I don't have a clear bra and can't justify the cost of one on a leased vehicle, is there a cheap (and reliable) alternative out there? I had a nightmare experience a few years back with one of those cheap bug guard screens I tried to use on my old car (it came undone on the freeway and the clips put a couple nicks in my paint job), so I'm afraid to try one of those on my G...

As far as the trip goes, I think I'm going to go up through the Carolinas, instead of taking I-75 through GA (No offense to you GA peeps, as I once lived there too, but I-75 through GA is a pretty long, boring drive, as I've done it many times). My experience has always been that gas is pretty cheap in GA, but I was wondering if anybody knew if the cost is similar in SC (?). Also, does anyone know if there are any points of interest worth checking out in the Carolinas (western parts)? I was thinking of stoppng by Asheville, NC to check out the Biltmore Estate and maybe taking a short diversion through Gatlinburg, TN, but other than that, I haven't heard of much else worth seeing between FL and those places. Also, if anyone knows of any cheap (but not scary; haha) places to spend the night near Asheville, NC or Dayton, OH, please let me know. Thanks!

I completed a very similiar trip in my NSX 2 years ago. Went from West Palm Beach through the Carolinas up the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA, then cut across Rt. 60 in Maryland to end up on I-70 in Ohio. Great trip and the Blue Ridge Parkway is just an amazing drive!

I think what he means is on the coupe w/18" package, at 7,500 and maybe again at 15,000 they remove the wheels dismount the tires and remount them, switching the tires from left to right.

The rears and the fronts do not rotate...they go side to side. Since these are directional tires, this is the only recommended way to rotate the tires........

I am planning a road trip from Boston to Seattle, then down to Los Angeles. About 4500mile trip. Should I get new tires and brakes before I go? I just passed 10,000 mark on my 6MT coupe.

Have you thought about a Colgan Bra to protect your front end? There not cheap, but certainly less expensive than the clear bra. Don't forget to check the air in your spare.

This should be a good time to visit Ohio. I was born and raised in Cleveland before moving to FL over 20 yrs ago. I'm still thawing out from the Winters up there. LOL.

Get the Colgan Bra. It's not a bad price, takes less than 5 minutes to put on and less to take off. I use mine when I drive from Jax to Orlando. I wipe it off when I get back, fold it up, and put it back in the box. You'll pull up behind 18-wheelers at 70 with a lot more comfort.

That is exactly what I meant... Where do I get this "Colgan" bra you all are talking about? Thanks.

*Edit* I found it at Strictly Z Parts. It says it doesn't fit cars with Aero packages though. Is it just refering to the ones with the front chin spoiler? If so, I don't have it ('wish I did though), so I imagine it wouldn't be a problem (?). Are there any other stores that carry this product?

Unless your tread is heavily worn down, I wouldn't put new tires on. Think about it, you're going on a 4500-mile trip. If you put new tires on before that, you're going to use up probably a third of their life (if not more) just on that one trip and you'll have to get another set even quicker than you'd like. As for the brakes, same thing. If they're working fine (and they should be with just 10K miles on them--that's where I am with mine also and the brakes are fine), don't bother. You won't be using them too much on the highway anyway, unless you're taking scenic, twisty roads for extra fun.

1) Wheel locks for piece of mind.

2) A good book on tape is wonderful for long trips.

3) Tons of hotels along the road - and the prices are are very similar among general class.. You can scope out using computer, and get good prices using computer, but if you BOOK using computer, you will lose substantial money if you no-show. Best to print out a big hotel folder with telephone numbers and rates, etc.

4) Man, I wish I brought my car washing supplies with me when I went on my road trip recently! Hated having a dirty car - and I refused to use any of the car washes.

5) Next time, my route will be determined by a book on regional roadside cooking. You know - the Best BBQ in North Carolina, that sort of thing. Gotta see some interesting sights that way.

Hugely powerful yet with a liquid cat-like elegance. The car has it too.

I got mine from StrictlyZ, they had the best price at the time. It will fit your car with aero. I think you're right and they're talking about the front chin.

Haha. No need for me to worry about that; I always keep mine in a couple plastic cases in the trunk, readily available. ...I was thinking about searching for hotel rates online also, as you mentioned. Thanks for the good tips.
