Sluggish performance after the first service?
Sluggish performance after the first service?
Help guys! I don't know if I'm going crazy or what. I took my car in about a week and a half ago for it's first oil change and for some repairs to the rear bumper which was damaged at the dealership. They had it for about a week. After I got it back it seems to be sluggish now during acceleration and hesitant when I gun it at high RPM's. Does disconnecting the battery for a an extended amount of time do something to the onboard fuel computer? I don't know if it's me or the car but it just doesn't seem the same. I drove a '03 G35 sedan while it was in for service and found the Sedan quite peppy. But after I got my car back it doesn't seem to just kick me in the seat like before. Does the oil change do anything? I'm lookin for ideas or to see if anyone else has noticed this. Thanks to all.

If anything, disconnecting the batt. should have done it some good. That erases all memory of how it's been driven, then relearns from a fresh start again. I wonder if the car was chugged around the dealership for that week and needs to relearn your spirited driving. You say it was disconnected there for the week. Maybe it wasn't. You could try that yourself to see if it picks up after. The only things that get erased (besides the computer memory) are the odometer mileage, the mpg readout on the navi, and the presets on the radio. No big deal to do. I've done it once on my Sedan, and now once on my Coupe with good results.

Come to think of it maybe it wasn't disconnected. The reason I say that is becuase the Stereo still had all my presets. Maybe I'll try disconnecting it just to see if it helps. Thanks man.

So after I put my 200,000 miles on the car, I just disconect the battery and zero out the mileage?

Ok here's a question If it was your cars first oil change then it wasn't broken in until you took it in I take it. So what your sayin is that you couldnt hold out on the breakin period or is this your first oil change at infiniti? Just an observation.

I had the oil changed at about 1800 miles. I spoke several people about the breakin period including infiniti. The consensus seemed to be 1500 mi. But I was gonna wait till 2000 when someone from here mentioned that the car has a differant type of oil in it when it is shipped from the factory and that you shouldn't leave it in for too long. My big concern really wasn't the breakin at all. I was pretty ginger with it till after the oil change. Never took it above 4000RPM tried not to drive long distances for extended amounts of time at feeway speeds. I followed all the rules. My issue is that after the oil change the cars performance seemed less peppy. It is still fast bugger but it seems like I have to push it more now for the same performance. Like it's not revving as freely or something. Just wonderin if anyone else had the same experience. I will consult my dealer the next time I go in I guess. For some reason I don't trust dealership mechanics though. Hmmmm....

Re: Sluggish performance after the first service?
I'd give it a week or so to get reacquainted with your car. This is what I think might be going on. After I first got my G, I drove it for a about a week before taking my 240sx (now my beater) out for a spin. Since I had adjusted to the G, the 240sx felt like a totally different car! For some reason it felt "faster" and the way it handled was foreign to me.
Also, I had the automatic sedan as a loaner for a day. I have a feeling that it has better torque in the lower RPM's than our manual coupes. It accelerated quickly even when staying within the 1.5K - 2K range. You probably just got used to that feeling. I know my coupe doesn't "feel" fast until 3K at least.

Something about our cars doesn't loose the memory after only 15 minutes. I've heard you have to leave it disconnected for up to 12 hours to clear the computer's memory.
