I was lined up at a stoplight with my friends 04 Z4 5AT.

Light turns green. I didn't go all out because I'm still breaking it in (<1000 miles)

Anyway, he took off pretty fast. I was hitting the throttle pretty hard (not all the way).

If anyone knows, it would be the guyz here. Who would win, cuz i'm reading some different figures here and there. If i were to really gun it, i'd hand him his own a$$ wouldn't i?

Now this is a closer matchup for a G.(compared to a M3) Even though the Z4 is alot more then the G. I think it would be a driver's race.

The figures I've seen for the z4 are around 5.4 to 60. The figures I've seen for the g coupe are 5.5-6.2. All things (including drivers) being equal, the z4 would walk us.

i just looked it up and on car and driver (the site that ran a 5.6 in a g coupe) ran a 5.4 in the 6spd. In an automatic who knows. Im sure that the auto shifts fast and everything, but launching and weight would be other factors to consider. It really comes down to how good of a drive u are i think

every bmw model's auto tranny is almost 0.8 slower than the same model in manual so i think u would beat him if u had over 2000-3000 miles on your car.

the auto trannys in the newer BMWs are supposedly much better, because BMW claims the Z4 autos are only 0.1 s slower than their manual counterparts in 0-60

 

I don't know the exact figures, but when my sister had the z4 auto for rental, my g35 auto felt faster. Felt like the g35 had better torque.

 

don't they weigh a lot less?
plus i heard comments about their close ratio gears. so from a stop, they might win, but rolling... maybe at 40?

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

 

IMO....I think the G would definitly pull away from the Z4 at speeds of over 100mph. In 5th gear, the G pulls HARD. Just my 2 cents though.

 

The G has more torque so the auto version would probably be a little faster than an auto Z4. Torque makes a BIG difference in autos.

04 Coupe Auto/DG/Prem/Nav/Perf

 

Those Z4's are pretty quick and about the same as our G's in 6spd or 350z's to 60, the Z4 might be a little quicker but the torque def. plays its part on the highway. Same thing when i race the 330ci's on the highway, the torque beats them in the top end!!

auto's are usually weigh 50-70 pounds more than the manual versions. But the biggest issue facing auto's is the powerloss. usually manual trans loses 15-18%, autos are closer to 20-25%
