WTF are drivers liceense points?
WTF are drivers liceense points?
I live in texas and my initial guess would be "we do not have a point system in this state." I know that there are certain infractions that u have a certain number of times for the same thing before u get severe consequences. If u are in your first year of driving and get 2 moving violations you can have your DL suspended for 6 months. They rarely do that here, but after your 3rd you are 99.9% sure to lose it if you have not yet been driving an entire year. DWI's - u can only have 3 every 5 years or something or u get ur license taken away.. and stuff like that.... but i dont think that we have a point system. How does you guys' point system work? Im just curious kinda. In texas auto insurance companies dont make much money anyways for some reason and so if you get to many tickets or in accidents they make insurance so damn expensive that we dont need a point system. I have a friend who drives a v6 explorer truck and got into 2 minor wrecks and one that ALMOSt totalled the other car and now her insurance is about $4800 a year. She's only 16 but still.... thats 4800 dollars lol in a v6 SMALL suv/trukc thing (whatever u wanna call it... its ugly). i too got into some minor accidents (backed into a parked car and left a small ding, got hit in an intersection (not my fault, but it was legally... the guy even apologized to me for making it happpen), and the small ding cost about 1k because they had to replace the entire hood... kinda sucked for a golf ball sized circle about 1 mm deep especially since it was dark and raining and i couldnt see the slammed black mustang parked 6 inches behind me
. the other one cost about $3k in body work to the other car and to replace his front right side suspension... my dad didnt claim it on insurance but just paid it out of pocket because he knew that insurance would be so expensive that it would save him money to spend 4k outa pocket than to claim it. He is making me pay it back however which kinda sucks... but hey i guess bad drivers get what they desearve
he did buy me a nice new g tho after i got 3k of it paid off (i still owe about 500 that im gonna pay after i get my volks and exhaust lol)

Re: WTF are drivers liceense points?
wrong!!! you do have a point system. It is up to the insurance companies to assign the points. A lot of the companies classify the violations into general groups like minor and major. Then each individual violation reported by the DMV through an MVR is assigned a certain number of points. Again, this can vary by company. However, the trend nowadays is to adhere to some standard such as ISO to code these violations. This insures that they can easily meet their statutory reporting requirenments. Premiums factors are based on somewhat complicated mathematical computations done by actuaries to figure out the profitability based on a company's exposure in any particular market. To calculate your premium, they will consider such things as your age, gender, marital status, zipcode, liability limits, deductible etc, etc, etc. At the end of the calculation, there will be a surcharge for the amount of points that you have based on your driving history (violations).
BTW, you should post this kind of threads under the OFF TOPICS section.

Re: WTF are drivers liceense points?
sorry about the incorrect forum.... why is it that u guys always talk about points and none of my friends ever do.... i know that we can take defensive driving and it doesnt even get seen by insurance for almost all infractions. 100mph+ or reckless driving is different tho.... in texas u get arrested on the spot, towed, and taken to jail for that (street racing, exhibition of acceleration or anything like that). I know that those tickets go on insurance and u cant get outa em. i have a firend with like 9 tickets in his for lightening and he just turned 18.... u can only take defensive driving once a year if im not mistaken and he hasnt had any real big problems i dont htink.... i dont htink his insurance rate is extreamly outa control either. His family also only has 2 cars... and i think he's the secondary driver on both of them (his mom and dad being primary) even tho the truck is actually his. (im primary driver on a '93 suburban with 194k miles and only carry liability with a clean record lOL) thats a good way to save money on a 17 year olds (b-day was yesterday) insurance on a brand new g35 coupe lol.

Re: WTF are drivers liceense points?
I live in Vermont and our point system works like this. Every moving violation is assigned a point total, so if you get ticketed for doing 15 MHP over the speed limit you get 5 points, once you get to 10 points you lose your license for 10 days. The points stay on your license for 2 years. After you get your license back it gets revoked at other intervals. 15 points=30 days 20 points=90 days
I'm not sure how other systems work but thats ours.
