My G and I, first time at the track

So I finally decided to test my G at the track. My buddy with a souped up Eagle Talon AWD Turbo (and now NOS) always goes and he finally convinced me to go. Headed out last night to Capitol Raceway in Crofton, MD. It's a decent 1/4 mile dragstrip. Keep in mind I've NEVER done this before. It was $20 to race and I got in about 5 runs before it got busy and I had to bail. Keep in mind that all runs were done with VDC off and I have a 2003.5 5AT Coupe.

Run #1:

I did the first run in regular drive mode. I just waited for the green and slammed on the gas. 1/4 mile in 14.985 seconds at 95.37 MPH.

Run #2:

I did this one and the last 3 in MM. I was shifting at about 5500 - 6000 RPMs. 1/4 mile in 14.867 at 96.76 MPH.

Run #3:

I screwed up this run. I tried to shift while in redline, forgetting that MM takes a second before it shifts. I shifted at 7000 RPMs but then the car started to shutter. I let off the gas and waited a second before hitting it again. The last stretch I shifted at 5500 RPMs. 1/4 mile in 15.45 at 91.83 MPH. Boo.

Run #4:

Decent run. 1/4 mile in 14.859 at 96.99 MPH.

Run #5:

My best run yet! Shifted at about 6500 RPMs. 1/4 mile in 14.788 at 97.59 MPH. Not bad for a 5AT.

My reaction times were pretty bad but I think only because on the 5AT when you slam the gas it hesitates for a split second or maybe I'm just slow but I think years and years of video game playing would've prepared me for this.

I didn't do any brake torquing since I just wanted to get a feel for the track but next time I think I'll give it a shot. I'd post the video I have right now but it's 6M. A buddy of mind had a digital camcorder and he's going to send me a disk with some of the runs on it.

aweee i thought i was gonna read some fun stuff on a roadcourse, but a dragstrip? psh.

lol jk man. gj on the runs. next time you go, try removing your spare, have only 1/4 tank of gas, and clean out the trunk.but don't worry too much about the dragstrip, not many people get the famed times their cars are rated at. heck, i know a few people with BMW E46 M3's that were never able to run faster than a 14.4

Ack! The spare tire!!! I should've gotten rid of that...next time! I was running on about 1/2 tank of gas. I was going to fill up and then I decided not too. Wasn't sure how far the dragstrip was and I don't like going below a 1/4 tank so I didn't want to run past.

Re: My G and I, first time at the track

after playing a lot in MM mode, I'll give you a little tip(i dunno if you already know this) on shift point...
1st to 2nd shift has the most lag in 5AT... shift at 6100rpm will make the tranny shift at exactly 6600rpm..
2nd to 3rd, shift at 6300rpm will make the actual shifting occurs at 6600rpm...
and 3rd to 4th(after many runs my 3rd gear tops at 93-94 so we need to shift to 4th), shift at 6600rpm redline... tranny will shift like SMG(exaggerate)!!!
hope this helps...

p.s 14.8 without brake tq is damn impressive..
