Re: 30K Service $495?

In reply to koreangrl's question about the maintenance being N/C, like the BMW. I wish it were so. My TL is a 2000 model year. Perhaps the new ones include the maintenance?

No, the new ones don't offer free maintenence either... I looked into buying the 04' TL before the G.

It could be a dealer specific thing though. Because I know the local Toyota dealer by my work has free oil changes for life on their cars (you have to take your car to this specific dealer), but I've never seen such an offer at any other Toyota dealers.

Re: 30K Service $495?

In reply to avs007, I enjoy working on cars, and am enough of a gearhead to do the work in a 60k mile service. However, I've generally followed (my own) rule that I let the dealer do the servicing while the car is in warranty. Then I do the rest of the maintenance myself till I sell the car. Now, I know I don't have to have the maintenance done by the dealer to keep the warrenty in effect. But my view on it is that these dealers (the Acura dealer and now, the Infiniti dealer) take pretty good care of me. I'm a fairly demanding perfectionist and I expect them to go to bat for me with the manufacturer on warranty issues. So far, they have. In return, I spend in the neighborhood of $1500 total with them on routine maintenance over the course of 4 years. That seems pretty fair to me.

Another consideration - I have time to keep up with maintenance on one car, but not two. I like to have one newer car, under warranty, being serviced by the dealer. And another, older out-of-warranty car I work on.

You probably learned more about me than you care to hear :-)

Steve

30K Service $495!!!
I think you got screwed big time.
new engine belts - too early to change these
Radiator Cap - what a crock of S**T; Infiniti recommends my A**!
Rotate tires - what the F**K!; you cannot rotate the G's tires.
Other stuff - OK

Sorry, didn't enough sleep last night and then this post just put me over the edge

Re: 30K Service $495?

Thanks for the heads-up, Supercharged6MT. That's the same dealer I go to. I'm only at 10K now, so I checked the maintenance manual for the 15K service and noticed I really don't need to do anything but change the oil up to that point. However, I think I'm due for a new air filter by now. Does anyone know if you can get GOOD stock replacement air filters at some autopart stores (instead of getting ripped off by the dealer)? If so, which ones? Thanks!

Re: 30K Service $495?

I guess I should have specified...a replacement filter that doesn't cost $40-$50; LOL (but thanks)! I actually had one of those K&N drop-ins on my old car for a while, but it didn't make a bit of difference over a regular filter (a conical aftermarket one did though). As for the maintenance, the "premium maintanance" list includes:

Replace engine oil and filter
Lubricate all locks/hinges
Replace ATF fluid (doesn't apply to you though, right?)
Replace differential oil
Replace engine air filter
Replace engine coolant/flush system
Replace engine drive belts
Replace in-cabin microfilter
Replace manual transmission oil
Replace radiator cap
Replace wiper blades
Inspect: all lights, axle and suspension parts, brake lines and cables, brake calipers, pads, rotors, cruise control vacuum hoses, drive shaft boots, exhaust system, front suspension ball joints, fuel lines/connections, fuel tank vapor vent system hoses, headlights/adjust if necessary, propeller shaft, steering gear and linkage, steering linkage ball joints.

Schedule 1 & 2 Maintenance includes:

Replace engine oil and filter
Replace engine air filter
Replace in-cabin microfilter
Inspect: axle and suspension parts, brake lines and cables, brake calipers, pads, rotors, cruise control vacuum hoses, differential oil, drive shaft boots, exhaust system, front suspension ball joints, fuel lines/connections, fuel tank vapor vent system hoses, propeller shaft, steering gear and linkage, steering linkage ball joints, manual trans. oil...

'Hope this helps!

Re: 30K Service $495?

Yep - If you have the 6MT or the performance tire package with the Pilot Sports, they are uni-directional tires.

Re: 30K Service $495?

If they have the Performance Package with the 18 inch tires, (note you said premium package - a different package) there are two choices (that I'm aware of):

1. dismount the tires from the wheels and swap the tires left-to-right (and vice versa). This requires rebalancing. This is not that expensive, maybe $30-40/per axle (i.e., to do the front). The only downside to this, frankly, is the chance they'll scratch your wheels.

- or -

2. don't rotate the tires. Downside to this is reduced tire life (on some seriously expensive tires).
