Question on the 3rd brake light
Question on the 3rd brake light
Hi everyone,
I have a question about the 3rd brake light on our car. I got the coupe, which had a 3rd brake light built in the interior. I decided to have the spoiler put on that had the brake light LED, so they unplugged the brake light inside the car. Is there any way to remove the brake light panel inside? Will Infiniti remove this? I called the service department, and they said they wouldn't want to remove it because it would make it a aftermarket mod (i really don't believe this). Was/Is anyone in this situation as well? Thanks!

Re: Question on the 3rd brake light
I've heard that strictly speaking, you're supposed to leave the 3rd brake light alone even tho there's another on a new wing.
Whatever.... that wouldn't stop me from removing the old one, which some have done btw. I'm not sure if you need a new parcel shelf or not, but that wouldn't be expensive.
I'm pretty sure you can remove just the light housing and you're good to go.

Re: Question on the 3rd brake light
I am in the same situation. My service advisor told me it is part of the tray and it can't be removed. I told them Nissan was able to removed my friend's Maxima and plugged the holes with plastic plugs. I request my service advisor to look into this because I definitely want to have this removed so I can have my rear window tinted.
Re: Question on the 3rd brake light
it's simply held on with a couple of clips. just pull from the back end and it will come forward and up and out. There will be a few gaping holes left so you will need to make a cover for it.
Re: Question on the 3rd brake light
here's a pic of a panel that I made to cover up the openings. it's not pretty but it gets the job done and the non-used 3rd light is now gone. I'll eventually remove the rear deck and reskin the whole thing so it's one continuous piece.
