Weather worthyness

how does the G35 coupe handle bad weather i.e. snow, rain, ice ect....???? I figuer it is just like any other RWD car, but you never know.

P.S. feel free to say this is the dumbest question ever I would understand. You see I am a teen looking at cars to buy, and teens can think of dumb questions.

Re: Weather worthyness

Lemmie tell ya, I took my 6mt to Canada (from NC) in January. Thought...I was going....to die.

I'm guessing folks up north have winter tires which probably help, but I had to buy 300lbs of rock salt to put in the trunk just to get any kind of traction. In retrospect, I should have taken the Volvo.

Not bad in the rain, but you can definitly tell when it's time for new rear tires.

Why do 17 yr olds want new cars? When I was a kid - all we wanted was classic cars such as mustangs, camaros, and firebirds to mod and restore.

Re: Weather worthyness

Plan on spending $1500 for a good snow tire package - the G is not "worthyness" in the snow.

Re: Weather worthyness

it's crap in snow/ice. I could barely make it up a 3% incline of a driveway.

Re: Weather worthyness

Even with the VDC and LSD?

I can't even tell when I'm in the rain, but is snow that much worse?

Re: Weather worthyness

Car is a suitable performer in ice and snow with blizzaks on 17s.
I'm not sure why other people complain when their summer high performance tires "suck" in the ice and snow. I know Speed-Racer had some special treads that would cover his tires at the push of a button, but in the real world that is just not an option yet.
The car does not suck in the snow or bad weather, just some people's perception of it after their poor judgement.
Actually, this car handles the bad weather as well as my old 1980 celica gt did.

I have the 17" Blizzak LM22's - they are amazing in the snow

Re: Weather worthyness

WOW it seems like everyone says something different. Those who use snow gear (snow tires, chains) does it do much to over come the snow. I like the G35 but I live in VA and we get a little snow ever year and a lot every few. The other car I am looking at is the Evo which I know would do fine. Does anyone live in a place like VA with hot summers and a few cool months??? How do you deal with the snow???

Mitsubishi Motors may not be around much longer - they are getting close to banckruptcy. They are the only unprofitable Japanese automaker.

Re: Weather worthyness

I think you would be mistaken to choose the Evo thinking it will do better in the snow.
It will definately be better in the snow with snow tires on it, the tires it comes with are just as bad in the snow as the michelin pilots that come on our cars 18" wheels.

Re: Weather worthyness

The Coupe is fine in the bad weather so long as you equip it with the right rubber.
I've got (4) Yokohama AVS snows on Enkei rims for the winter here in Ontario, (Canada) and it performs very well.

The summer rubber that comes with the Coupe is useless in cold snowy weather (even dangerous). Don't even dream of driving it with those tires in those conditions.

Some of our group up here have Blizzaks and they say they're fine too.

Re: Weather worthyness

Snow tires will help with a rear wheel drive but you will never be able to go where a front wheel drive goes. Front wheel drive is so much better than RWD in snow. This statement cannot be argued!! I don’t care how good of driver you are or how good your tires are, the RWD cars will have problems with traction and will fish tailing in snow.

In areas of heavy snow and ice, I would recommend snow tires and they are an absolute must for RWD cars.

Living in Canada and having my share of FWD and RWD vehicles there is no comparison in snow. The AWD system has amazing traction for taking off and in climbing inclines but it is no different in stopping.

Re: Weather worthyness

yea fwd drive deffinitly alot better in the snow, instead of fish tailing you just get alot of understear, but rear wheel is alot more fun in the snow, get a g35x unless your dead set on a coupe wich any normal person would be

splashguards, 8 wire Hypergrounding kit, 350Z intake duct, K&N filter.
