Pics of this mornings stupidity
Re: Pics of this mornings stupidity
i gots millions of friends who own bodyshops, and judging from the looks of it (which is not to good to do; looking at pictures!), i believe a respectable dent smith/specialist can fix it without having to demolish it! there are no such thing as rear quarter panel/fenders. they're actually cut and welded on if in a serious collision. i think you should check out a dent specialist, then just blend the rest with a new coat of paint. keep in mind, just because you use the same code (example: DG = wv2), it doesn't mean it will come out exact. still gotta match color, and blend in.

My deductible is $250 so cant I just order a new panel from infiniti? It is a large as* panel though if you look at it.

thats so weird, this girl backed into me the other day and its the same exact dent. i went to Infiniti to get the estimate and the guy quoted me at 3,500 to replace the panel, paint, labor and such. but that also includes a new rim, so deduct 840 and that should be about the price

you 100% on that? the g35 is not a unibody car (hence the body lines at the roof).. that whole panel should be able to be taken off and replaced. if a dent removal place can fix that i would be in amazement, i've had numerous fender benders and have helped friends out in similar situations and they needed body work.
i am not a body shop, nor did i build a g35 coupe and know its parts off hand so i am only going off of my best judgement.

I had a similar dent (my dent was about 1/4 the size) right above a rear wheel on the metal where the lip is. I took the car to a dent wizard shop at a local infiniti dealer two days after it happened. They were able to remove about 80% of the dent. They told me it is rare that a dent will come out of the wheel well location because of the angle of the metal where they join. I am happy with the repair especially since they did not charge me since they could not fix it totally. Down the road when I do have some body work done I will have it tapped out and fully repaired.
Get it to a dent shop quickly, everyone told me the longer it sits in that position, the harder it gets to repair it to it's original shape.

My concern with a whole new quarter panel is the paint job a body shop will do. Ive heard from most people that the paint will not match. This is such a huge panel that id rather just have the dent partially removed or whatever.

A body shop's job is to match paint and make it look like brand new. You pay for a service you have them redo until it is correct and perfect. People have this preconceived notion that no body shop can paint anymore, when in fact the paint that most body shops spray on a car is 100x better than anything the dealer can give you.
Good luck with it.

Re: Pics of this mornings stupidity
I had an almost identical damage on my coupe.. same location.. same color.. it was $1700 to fix and repaint. They have to repaint the whole quarter panel up to the nearest break line. It came out great however.. no way you can tell.
Re: Pics of this mornings stupidity
Yea, that was/is my preconceived notion since I have never had any damage or need to goto a body shop, nor have I had friends who have had repairs. It just sounds ugly what they have to do. I talked to a guy today who saw it and he said he has to take off the paint of the entire quarter panel, and I just cringe when I picture them sanding away my G or whatever they do to take the paint off.
I am taking it in tomorrow to a place referred to me by my insurance and who does exotic cars. Crossing my fingers.

Don't be nervous about it, make sure you have heard they do good work and the shop is well kept. You pay for a service and just make sure you get exactly what you want.
