Turning off auto "air recirculating"?

I've come to the conclusing that when a/c is on and the air is recycling, you get a nasty smell once a/c is off. It's definitley better once the recycle mode is off.

Anyways with many settings on the coupe (i.e auto econ, defrost etc...) the ventilation automatically sets itself to "recycle mode" and I end up manually turning it off everytime to fresh air mode. Is their any way to change this auto setting? Honestly I would prefer it to be the otherway where I would change it to recycle mode when desired.

Any help would get great!

Thanks

My opinion would be to turn off recirc about 1 minute before turning off you ac. I talked to a Honda mechanic a while back and he said mold or some shmeg could grow in there if you don't. Don't know if it's true but I do it.

If your getting a nasty odor you can spray an anti fugi/mold that doesn't have a scent, that kills that stuff!

I believe if its on Auto you can opt to not recycle air, and have the ac on, but on auto-econ you don't have a choice! Thats the econ part of it, that is its cooling already cooled air, not out-side air!

if you put it on fresh it will stay that way when you restart the car. The only time it will switch to recirc is if it is very hot in the interior and it will automatically go to recirc to cool the car down fast, once it's cooled down, it will go back to fresh.

as was told to me by the dealer, your cold air will be colder and your hot air hotter if you recirculate and opposed to getting fresh air. though the fan seems to blow more when it's fresh.

Re: Turning off auto "air recirculating"?

its probably colder or hotter because your engine is working a lot harder by using recirculation.....

After reading all of the above posts, none of them really answers G35COUPEBC question which asks for information to change the Recirculation Default when turning on his AC. I'm interested in doing this too.

Does anyone know if this can be done? How?

Re: Turning off auto "air recirculating"?

To my understanding, there is no way to change this. It is a function of the branch states in controller. This means that certain states we set branch into other states. This is a terrible thing that human factors people will recognize as a problem.

Generally, most people (especially those driving sports cars) prefer complete control over the settings. The Auto mode would be where these types of branched states would be appropriate.

Bottom line: It is poor engineering and not the first thing I've encountered on my coupe- but when I hit the gas I quickly forget about them.

Re: Turning off auto "air recirculating"?

As an aside, I agree with an above poster who said to turn off your AC about a mile or two from home to let the condensation in the vents dry out. If its always wet in there, that smelly mold does indeed grow.

I've been doing this for years in my cars, and never have that AC smell. And then I get in my friends 1-year old car and it smells like my gym socks.

Engine is not working any harder, the switch just flips a flap.

Just curious, what do you think recirc means?
