New G35 owner [pics/questions]

i posted half of this in the intro forum but i'm gonna post it here as well for the sake of the questions i wanted to ask. And dont be too hard on me. thanks

Hey all, i've done some reading around the forums and look forward to chattin' with you guys. I bought my 2005 5AT g35 the first week of May and i love it! Apparently it has sport suspension, sport brakes, and sport rotors. But so far i'm loving it. I live in the chicago area in case any of you wonder.

**sorry the pics are a little foggy, i took them on my phone.

As for questions, i guess i'll just jam pack this thread. I've done various searching on the web and throughout this forum but it'd be nice to hear some first hand responses.

First off, One thing i really would like to do is change that 'strip-like' lighting along the side of the main headlights to LEDS (similar to the audi style lights). How hard would this be, and would it void any warranty on my headlights?

2nd: I notice how on the '06 and '07 there are slightly different body lines and tail lights. Is it at all possible to get those tail lights installed on my '05 or would they just flat out not fit?

3rd: How do i know if i have the 'aero package'??? and also my car did not come with the spoiler. How would i go about picking out the right one? and is there one i can buy similar to the style of the g37 trunk?

4th: What is the plenum spacer?? is it ok to put on w/o an aftermarket intake? or is it completely un-affected by the intake?

5th: putting in an aftermarket head-unit (Ex, touch screen) do i have to totally replace the mounting all around it?

6th (Last but not least, for now ) How in the heck can i fix the damn marks from gravel and rocks on my front bumper. They are absolutely terrible looking up close. It looks like i drove down a gravel road going 100 mph. I'm not familiar with body work on cars and have never done it.

**i apologize for all the questions and probably sounding like a complete idiot, but i hope you guys can understand and help me out a bit. Thanks in advance, and once again, i'm looking forward to chattin' with ya'll

welcome to driver!
now to answer your questions

1. if you want your headlight clearance strip to be L.E.D's i would PM Iron-Mike..he knows how to install them

2. Yes 06 headlights and taillights will be a direct plug and play on your O5 coupe

3. you can put either the 03-05(iron board spoiler) or the 06-07 spoiler on your 05 coupe.but imho i would leave your trunk spoilerless, it just looks clean that way

4. plenum spacer goes in the middle of the upper plenum. its a stealth mod that can create up to 5-15 hp.

5. you would have to get a JDM DD kit. PM rick@riversideinfiniti

6. Check your local body shops and see how much it would cost to repaint your front. Then if you dont want more rock chips and such get a clear bra.

i hope i helped you a bit
but if you want answers if you have more questions

you should use the Search Function

GL and happy modding

How hard would this be, and would it void any warranty on my headlights? Can be done and isnt to hard. Check Headlight mods throughout this forum for info. Probably will void the warranty on the headlights. Better yet though get the 06+ Headlights with the projectors. Makes a hell of a differance!

2nd: I notice how on the '06 and '07 there are slightly different body lines and tail lights. Is it at all possible to get those tail lights installed on my '05 or would they just flat out not fit?The 06+ Tails fit without modification. Look into the 06 JDM tails with the Orange turn signal.

3rd: How do i know if i have the 'aero package'??? and also my car did not come with the spoiler. How would i go about picking out the right one? and is there one i can buy similar to the style of the g37 trunk? No wing no aero. Check underneath also to see if you have the diffusers.

4th: What is the plenum spacer?? is it ok to put on w/o an aftermarket intake? or is it completely un-affected by the intake? Its just that. Its a spacer for your plenum that allows more volume and airIflow in your engine. It is best to stick with your stock air box and not get an intake.(HP Loss) The Plenum spacer is you best bang for your buck mod. Motordyne or Powerlab is the way to go.http://www.motordyneengineering.com/techinfo.htm Spacer info in this link.

5th: putting in an aftermarket head-unit (Ex, touch screen) do i have to totally replace the mounting all around it? Yes, you have to replace the whole unit including the AC controller. Best to go with the JDM dash kit and controller.

6th (Last but not least, for now ) How in the heck can i fix the damn marks from gravel and rocks on my front bumper. They are absolutely terrible looking up close. It looks like i drove down a gravel road going 100 mph. I'm not familiar with body work on cars and have never done it.
Take it to a body shop and have them repaint it. I have the same problem.
The best thing to do for all this info is to SEARCHhttps://g35driver.com/forums/search.php these topics. All the information is here.

I don't agree that you lose hp w/ an intake.. a Cool Air Intake can lose HP from potential heat transfer, but the ztube and jwt pop charger has been a proven intake to provide HP gains.. You're not going to get like 30 hp to the wheels or anything, but you will gain HP.

The Z tube is what really improves the power. The addition of the Pop charger wont net you much anything really but will add quite a bit of sound. You may see a differance with a tune?

seems to be a popular debate from what i can see. My understanding is that the z tube is literally the tube off a 350z?

And thank you very much for the responses, it's much appreciated

yes you are correct UrangeAve I should get more power out of a tune.. And that is EXACTLY what I'm getting tomorrow..
2 DEGREEZE baby!!!!

The pop charger does add sound, but not annoying sound.. I like the sound of the whistle (air being sucked into the funnel air filter).. Some have said they liked their stock air filter w/ the z tube as well.. I can't argue that.. I don't know that an air filter would really cause power gains whether it was box or funnel shapped..

yes timmay12 you're correct.. It's simply the Ztube off the 350z.

Twalls, Still modding I see. You make modding so addicting. Please post the dyno's when you get them. Im trying to hold off so I can boost next spring but once again you make it hard. LOL. I almost bought that K2 from the guy in Florida on Weds.

Now back to this thread. The Pop Charger adds a great sound. I had the Injen and the Pop Charger and they both sound great. Im back to the Z-Tube and a K&N drop in now and I feel more of a gain throughout my powerband. No heat soak and the K&N is more free flowing then a stock filter so more air forced in. Z-tube has just a tiny whistle to it also.

so what i'll probably do then is see if i can find the ztube, keep all the original mounting in the car and either put a k&n drop in filter or leave the stock one. Then i'll move onto the plenum spacer. But all these headlight options seem pretty rockin too. Looks like i got some moneys to save up, haha. I'll probably see if i can pick up the 06+ projector lights and the jdm tail lights minus the amber turn signal. Also those clear corners are nice as well.

Thanks again for all your help. Oh and one last thing. The aero package includes front and rear air diffusers?

Aero should just be rears. and with the taillights, just look for the 06+USDM lights. JDM are the ones with the orange. For most of your needs you can PM Tony@Riverside like OHella said.

Your right. I just had a ride in a GTR today and watched 5 TT G's and Z's beat up the track so I know I have to go FI now. No doubt those things were sick especially the GTR. Coils will make a huge difference. You wont be disappointed.

Yeah. trying to decide to stick w/ the Tien Basics as originally thought, or go w/ the Tenabe 5's w/ the TEAS and have a little fun w/ the programmable dampening.. hehehehehhe.. I'm a tech geek (software programmer).. so that kind of stuff excites me.

Go with the Tanabe's. It is fun to play with buttons and *****. The Basics are no fun, but will do the job though.
