Exclamation !!! Figured out something new! DO NOT REMOVE GAUGES AND DRIVE

Hey guys,

so i was stripping my car, like i usually do with all my cars when i start on my electrical work. I'll keep you guys updated with what i'm working on with a new thread (custom 8" screen with relocation of the AC controls) but now i must tell you all something very important..

now i'm not sure if this has been discussed already but i learned today the hard way...

Without your gauges, the car will NOT charge the battery and the alternator will not work

I was in the process of taking out my gauges to have them customized and thought i drive around to finish up on other stuff.... after a whole day of driving, I ended up at a meet (over 100 cars, couple of gs) when i couldn't start my car all of a sudden. it started to do some crazy things... even after i got a boost, as soon as i turned on the headlights, the system just collapsed.. kinda like in the movies... lights dimmed... engine couldn't rev yet, it was idling very low.. and finally stopped. If i quickly turned off my headlights, the engine would start to idle a lil higher and kinda stay on... since we have drive-by-wire throttle, mashin the gas pedal didn't do nothing... [ I felt like i got EMP'd ]

i then called up my buddy who owns a car shop and he told me that.. all infiniti's cannot be driven without their gauges since it holds information for the alternator to charge the battery.

sorry for the long thread... but after driving around holding the gauge in 1 hand (since i already put everything else together, didn't have tools on me to put the gauges back properly... and it was like 11:00pm... ) i needed to let you guys all know!!

for those that are modifying their gauges.. DO NOT ATTEMPT to drive without them.. your car will be running completely from the battery until it starves and dies.

And remember... You Can drive around for hours during the day and not notice since your headlamps will be most likely off. It's when you turn them on, after 30-45 min, you will have problems.

Atleast I know what I can do to prevent a stolen car when I'm on vacation. He he

That's one of those things you would never know until it happens to you. Thanks for the heads up I was going to mod my gauges in the future.

And then you get pulled over and are dumfounded when the cop asks, "Do you have any idea how fast you were going." What? "How fast fast you were going."
