Closing the trunk by hand

Who here thinks we need a better way of closing the trunk then putting your dirty mitts on the paint surface? Has anyone come up with a nice latch or handle for the inside to pull the trunk lid down?

While I am at it, I don't like the idea of touching the gas cap cover to open it either.

Re: Closing the trunk by hand

I cut out a notch in the trunk liner just above the locking mechinsm about 4" long... I only cut on the bottom and the 2 sides, so it kind of just flaps in at the top... Now I just slip a few fingers in there and pull it down... I couldn't stand putting finger prints on the trunk... Not to mention, it's pretty stealth... How many times have you even seen the liner right there?

Haha, I thought I was the only one who would be picky enough to get upset over something like this. I didnt think about putting a little strap there to help me pull it down, but thats a good idea.

I just use the My Fuji emblem and then buff it with my shirt. Seems to work out ok. Sometimes using the latch feels a bit awkward...

I also use the latch. Grab the latch with both thumbs and pointer fingers and gain a lil momentum. If the plastic cap comes off, it just pops right back on.

You mean the coupe doesn't have the same grab handle that the sedan has?!

Don't know about a right way to close the trunk, but I can tell you how NOT to close the trunk: never use your elbow to press on it !!!
I have a nice dime-size dent on my trunk lid from my elbow. I came home from the supermarket one day, and since my hands were full with groceries, I used my elbow to shut it. What a dumb a$$ mistake.

Wow me too... I just use the sleeve of my shirt (long sleeve shirts) or wipe it off real quick. =)

One bad design about the trunk.. I'm glad they didn't put an outside handle though. That would be hideous (like the 2003 G35 sedans).

Re: Closing the trunk by hand

I agree as well, it doesn't seem right to have to touch the paint in order to close the trunk. To bad infiniti didn't install the "automatic" trunk closer like on some cadillacs, where you just lower the trunk to the closed position, and a servo pulls it down and locks it.

Even my 2002 Infiniti I35 had a grab handle on the inside lip which made closing the trunk a snap. It gave you plenty of leverage, and no touching the outside area.....I guess its another small gripe that infiniti didn't figure on to cut some costs

Any Ideas out there for a servo mod to close the trunk automatically?

That would be great for us, but I think they ran out of trunk space so they didn't include it in the coupe trunks. I would gladly switch out my first aid kit for the interior handle!

Re: Closing the trunk by hand

It's funny to read this. I'm always freaking out about closing my trunk after i wash my car. I usually use the towell I dried it with. When I have nothing else I just grap the corner of the trunk where it won't be noticable. Some sort of handle or strap would be really nice to have in there.
