1st oil change?

Is it a good idea to change the oil near the end of the 1200 mile break in or is it better to just wait until 3000?

If you own it 1200
If you lease it - 3000

someone did a Blackstone test at 1000 with their G.. As I recall, they said the oil was comparible to oil with 3000 on it already.

Re: 1st oil change?

I was told by my dealer to change my oil at 3750 miles. I own the car and purchased it in April. I have currently driven 2700 miles. Have I damaged my car??? I was going to wait for another 1000 miles and then change it.
Please, advise.

Re: 1st oil change?

My experience to date has largely been with domestics, but I would change after 800-1200 miles to get rid of metal shavings and contaminants from the break-in lube. I changed mine at about 800 and was surprised by the color. I just did my 3000 mile change, and the oil looked better than the 800 mile stuff.
As for the 3750 mile interval, it could be due to the better dino oils available. The performance gap between dino and synthetic oil (at least with premium brands) is lessening with each standard revision.
Just a guess, however.

Re: 1st oil change?

I changed mines after the 1st 20 (track) miles of hard break-in.

Did my first one early to get any shavings/ contaminants out. Make sure the first is not with synthetic. You can switch to synthetic after the first one.
