Trying to keep my car from the sun, yesterday I parked it under a tree in the shade. Well this morning I went out and a limb fell on it. The tree limb broke the drives side mirror off. It did not damage the mirror, but the bracket that attaches it to the car. The car is silver but this bracket is black. Can I just by a replacement bracket? I looked everywhere and can't find anything. Thanks for your help.

 

You need to buy the whole mirror assembly. If your painted shell from the original mirror is not damaged, you can transplant it onto the black plastic mirror housing from the new mirror that you buy and save a whole ton of money by not having to get the new mirror shell painted.

I have a pretty detailed writeup on how to do this whole process of replacing the mirror... you just have to find it. I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link if I get a chance today.


By the way.. it's better that a tree hit your car, than your car hit a tree.

I'm not sure what year your car is, but that's the part you need to order if it's an '03 to '07 Coupe. I ordered mine from those guys... super fast shipping, and a great price too.

After you order and recieve the part, if you have any questions about the install... drop me a PM or send me a message on AIM(AOL Instant Messenger, Screenname = partyman66). It's been a while since I did mine, but it was not that hard to do and didn't require any fancy tools other than typical stuff that every toolbox should have(ratchets, screwdrivers, electrical tape, etc.).

The only atypical tool is that you need either a really really small flathead screwdriver(like those mini ones used for eyeglass repair), or a small sewing needle that can be used to release the pins that go into the wiring harness for the plug on the mirror.

The mirror shell and assembly itself is connected to the broken black plastic piece by 3 phillips head screws, and they should come out no problem if you pre-treat them with some PB-Blaster and let them set for about 10 or 15 minutes before trying to remove them.

Whatever you do... don't take the car to the dealer to get it fixed.... they'll love you long time, and screw you for at least $600 to order the part and install it. Just for laughs, I called my local dealer to see how much they would charge for the repair and it they said something like $700.

You'll want to choose the "W/O Heated" version since it's about $30 cheaper than the heated mirror version. You won't actually be using the mirror anyways, just the base... so the heated aspect won't affect you. You're going to literally take your old mirror off of the broken base, remove the new base from the new mirror and install your old painted mirror assembly onto the new base and reinstall. The part you want is the $165 one, but you have to choose whether it's drivers or passengers side.
