2007 clutch replacement @ 27,500 miles ??
I recently started having really bad clutch chatter so I took my car to the dealership. They said the clutch is worn out and needs to be replaced. At 27,500 miles!?!?!? I've had several different standard transmission cars before with over 100,000 miles and never had to replace a clutch. The dealer wants to charge me $2,700 to replace the clutch and they said it's not covered under my warranty because "it's a standard wear item like break pads."
I can't believe this. Why would I buy an Infiniti with the extended warranty to have to replace the clutch for $2,700 after less than 30,000 miles? I could have bought another POS Mustang for less money and not have to replace the clutch. I have a feeling the dealer is trying to screw me over.
Have you guys ever heard of a clutch going out so soon on these cars? I feel like something is wrong and that shouldn't happen. Do you know if there's anything I can do? I already called Infiniti Consumer Affairs and complained about it. They opened up a ticket and are working with the dealer about it but who knows how that will go or what effect that will have.
If the dealer can't prove that there's some sort of abuse going on isn't it totally abnormal for the clutch to go out at 27,000 miles?

My clutch in my g35 had 92,000 before I totaled it and it never had a clutch replacement.
Go to http://www.g35parts.com/9083/osc/pro...98c576a44cd05f.
They have a Jwt clutch disc, pressue plate and fywheel combo for $799. All you need from the stealership is the throwout bearing.

i got a 07 with about 32K miles and so far no clutch issues! (knock on wood)
and that repair quote is way to high! have u tried another infiniti dealer?
clutch is considered normal wear and tear item so they will not cover it in most cases. as far as being able to determine if its abuse or not i have no idea but they dont know your driving habits either so its hard to determine?
you said its a loud chatter? from my understanding they come with the chatter from day one. i know i still have a loud chatter on mine. How does you car drive? does it slip? maybe your car is fine and they just need money to "fix" your car

05 6MT here with 39.5k miles.
I'm also going through the same headache that I see other 6MT owners go through with the clutch. The dealership and Infiniti Customer Service refuse to cover the cost of materials, using the same argument "standard wear item", however the owners manual and the manufacturer's warranty that the car comes with, do not make any such reference, and actually support the notion that it is covered (more on that for another time)
This topic comes up, time and time again on all of the G & Z boards.
I truly believe that there is one or more defective parts and/or designs with the manual transmission. I also believe that both the manufacture and the dealers know this, yet they continue to default to the supposed "standard wear item" rejection.
Does anybody know if there is a national database that consumers can access that shows repairs needed by car, by manufacture, etc.?
I'm looking for as much credentialed statistics as I can get my hands on as I pursue this.

f r e z N Y I feel you. The dealer are giving me the same song and dance. The dealer called me today and told me my flywheel has a lot of hot spots on it. Could that be a cause of excessive wear on the clutch? And if so, what would cause the hot spots on the flywheel? Improper driving or defective workmanship/materials? Or is something like that hard to tell? I can't believe it would be improper driving as I've been driving a standard transmission for 10 years now and have never in my life replaced a clutch on a vehicle, let alone at my low-ish mileage.
Maybe I just need to suck it up and just replace it out of my pocket. The only reason I haven't yet is that I feel like I'm getting screwed big time. And if I do, the dealer is not doing it, especially to just put in another crap clutch.

FIRST DO NOT WASTE TIME WITH DEALER!
Go to a shop to check why there might be so much chatter, do not assume it is the clutch, it may just be the pressure plate. If there is a terrible burning metal smell after you drive, its the clutch going. If the perasure plate is wack, you might save your clutch.
EITHER WAY DO NOT DEAL WITH THE DEALERSHIP!
