MACHINE CAR WASH?....

I was wondering if putting your G in the machine will ruin the paint or damage it. I have not yet tried it but i heard it leaves swirls on your paint.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

You need to be very careful even with the "touch free" machines. Most have some kind of track on the floor you either drive through or which pulls the car through by a wheel. It's really easy to scratch your rims, especially if they're the factory 18's or aftermarket.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

If you value your paint, you will only handwash it. If you value your finish, you will only hand wash it yourself with proper tools... emphasis on proper.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

The guy that told you that it will damage your paint is a genius.
I probably saved you money by telling you not to go through the gas station car wash. That wouldnt have been pretty.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

Just took my g35 thru the automated car wash and got my 18" wheel scratched and the front mudguard ripped off the body of the car.

This was one costly mistake.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

touchless is bad for two reasons...

1.) Usually this involves high pressure water... Hit a chip just right, and it will peel the paint right off your car.

2.) Usually they use a special detergent, to dissolve the dirt from your car... This is very hash, and will usually ruin your clearcoat and/or your paint. After a while, your car won't be as glossy.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

Once with my old car, i got stuck in the automatic car wash! For some odd reason the door up front closed on me going into the wash and after that..the rinse cycle kept looping and im sitting there, with very hot water being sprayed on my car, oh boy it was nuts. Had to call 911 to get me out.

anyway after that I learned my lesson and stopped going to automatic car washes, and ill definately never go with the G, rims will get scratched and your at risk of damaging the clear coat.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

No offense to anybody here, but people who use automated car washes are either lazy, naive, or they don't give a sh-t about their cars.

I wouldn't take a Geo Metro through an autowash (unless it was a rental of course). I'd rather my car be filthy-dirty-disgusting than risk a car wash.

Re: MACHINE CAR WASH?....

Ive been taking my car to 5 star car wash here in NY because
1. There track is wide and low, even witht he wider rims and almost 2 inch dropped G my car doesnt get a scratch on it.
2. Got my house redone and still so have nowhere to wash my car.

Everytime it comes out it seems to have a very shiney finish and looks so clean, they hand clean it and get off all of the excess dirt after. I would love to hand wash it but the ground and everything got ripped up around my house so no outside water line for another year, and no hoses. Sucks!! But they do a great job
