does the coupe open up a lil bit after break in?
does the coupe open up a lil bit after break in?
i got my coupe just a few days ago and am completely in love w/ the car. ...."trying" to follow break in procedures, but i'm in the camp that believes you have to open it up all the way sometimes so the car knows how you like to drive. my question is... does the coupe liven up a little bit after break in? i've heard that lots of new cars are programmed to open up a bit around 1200 to 1500 miles. i ended up getting the 5AT, and although its pretty quick.... i wouldn't mind if it was quicker. thanks guys

Absolutely. I have 1,300 miles on mine and i can definetely tell that its opening up more. It even feels like its pulling harder down in the lower rpms. I think its all how your ECU is tuned. I think if you teach it to open up a lot, then it will more often. I believe during breakin you shift early, therefore it doesnt know how to open up hard. I believe once you have miles on your car, you shift at higher rpms, go faster, and shift harder. I believe the computer picks up on it, therefore the car seems to pull better. So to answer your question, yes I think it does.

there is a big difference in the way it pulls after break-in and before break-in. I noticed differences at 3K and 7K (after I did an ECU reset)

Get some Mobil 1 synthetic too. I swear I can feel it rev faster.

that's typical for changing oil every time. but of course synthetics has better friction modifiers vs dino oil.
try owning a motorcycle. you'll swear that as soon as you change your oil at it's interval...the shifting feels/gets smoother...like after every oil change. over time, the oil's properties get crappier. in bikes, you can feel that shifting get a little more abrubt, after a while..hitting false neutrals, which really sucks when you're road racing. afterall...that's why it's important to change oil because of all the carbon build up, metal shrapnels, and whatever else debris adds up. prior to changing your oil...try and remember through your butt dyno how the car revs, feels and such. change the oil with the same oil thats in your car, if your still on dino oil, stick to the same grade dino oil. if your on syn..change it out with the same grade syn...then note the difference it makes after an oil change.

should'a openned her up as soon as you drove off the sales lot. I did =P. As soon as I did that...the sales guy called me on my cell and kinda lectured me. Basically I told him off by saying:
Sales - Didnt I tell you to take it easy
Me - I this your car now?
Sales - You're supposed to take it easy on the 1st 1000 miles
Me - Do you or have you ever rebuilt engines?
Sales - No
Me - Do you know anything about rebuilding engines?
Sales - No
Me - Well...try learning how to rebuild one, break them in the way you were told. then rebuild it and break it in the way hard..then call and tell me what you think. (me being cocky) And why dont you come by the race school so I'll show you a real test drive. *click*
yah...me and sales people dont get along.

wait til you hit about 2500 miles then you can really feel the difference in power. gas milage will increase as well after this point.

Like everyone else, yes, it opens up AND gets much better gas mileage. How sweet is that? Congrats on the 5AT-we got the same thing and love it(primarily the wife's car, no stick for her!).
