"Total" Synthetic Oil

Hi people,

I'm new to this forum and been trying to use the search function to check about the "TOTAL" synthetic oil, unfortunately, no one post anything about it. I'm thinking to bring my G to Nissan for oil change and they offering me their synthetic oil, brand "TOTAL". Anyone here have any experience about that "TOTAL", or should I bring in my own oil ? Thanks.

Total is cereal... not oil.

I've never heard of this supposed "total" brand oil.

If you want to use a Class IV synthetic(true synthetic), use Amsoil, German Castrol Syntec 0W30(this is different than regular Castrol Syntec), Redline, Motul or Eneos synthetic motor oil.

Royal Purple is also supposedly a Class IV synthetic, but I would not recommend using it... it is far far far inferior to the other 5 synthetic oils that I mentioned above.

Yea. I found out another name of "Total" = ELF USA Total Synthetic. Here's the link for their products:

Total Synthetic Oil

I have a G35, Bimmer & Porsche. On my G35 I don't really care which brand of oil as long as I stay with Infiniti's 3,750 miles change interval. I use Mobile 1 0W-40 synthetic exclusively for my Bimmer & Porsche. Recently, a local European specialty shop owner recommends me Total synthetic as a better choice than Mobile 1. I did some research but find very little info on this brand except that it appears to be a legit vendor made in France for European cars. The owner shows me a print out web page from the vendor that they claim many European auto manufactures, e.g., Audi, Mercedes & BMW, have approve their oil. However, the US Porsche & Bimmer official web pages never include this brand as approved oil providers for their cars.

I have never heard of an oil named Total and it's not listed on any oil comparison charts I've ever seen. I own my G35 coupe and my wife's Vette and I do care what kind of synthetic oil I use in both! I use AMSOIL in my coupe and Mobil1 in the Vette along with K&N filters on both. Mobil 1 synthetic will do a good job keeping you're internals clean and running good and I recommend their oil filters too....

ok can any1 explain to me why on earth would the dealer recommend conventional oil rather then synthetic in our cars makes no sense to me
they told me the g35 motor wont benefit at all with synthetic oil just a waste of money , ive allways put synthetic in my cars , the dealer told me that it wont change a damm thing , now i live in really cold weather and im sure it would be 100 times better with synthetic oil when starting the car in the morning when its freezing outside , can any1 tell me why would they recommended cheaper oil , i find it weird they told me dont waste your money on synthetic i mean this is the steelership also go steelers

dealer is all official, if your engine does not say to get synthetic, then they will say that its not worth it. Maybe the newer engines get synthetic but the older ones do not. At the dealer.

Like at the Lexus dealer, ls460 gets synthetic, ls430 does not, they claimed the same thing for the 430, that its worthless and waste of money.

Synthetic oil has better cold flow so if you are in an area that is getting sub freezing temps, I would use synthetic.

Suprised no one has heard of Total before. Don't they have billboards in Gran Turismo? Total is legit and a popular brand in Europe and Asia. That doesn't mean it's better or worse than the brands we are used to here though.

Nothing is the best, there's no way to tell. People usually compare basestock.

With that said everyone says redline has a very good base stock

And that does not mean an oil with a lesser basestock is bad.
