Considering a G35
Considering a G35
Hi, first off maybe i should introduce myself, my names Jeff im 24 i work for the US Government Currently I drive a 2005 Volvo S60R which has given me major problems since i bought it and the warranty never covers anything, the most recent is what pretty much pushed me over the edge, the slave cylinder failed for the 2nd time in 8 months this once again causing the brake fluid to destroy the clutch and the flywheel, repair estimate $5600, the first time this happened it was still covered under the original warranty, now that has expired and the aftermarket one I paid $4k for will not cover it. So im just plain sick of the bs.
The G35 is really the only other vehicle that sparks any interest (that or take my 96 Volvo out of storage, but a 320whp fwd car isnt that streetable) So i ask what are the major issues with these and what to look out for?
The only major issue i see with doing this is i will be quite upside down as i still owe 26k on the s60 and the current trade in is down to about 15k, but this one was never in the greatest shape when I bought it so its probably worth 12k or less. I would like one of these cars but i do not want something that's constantly broke. I know being a nissan it should have more reliabilty.

Good article here. http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...initi_g35.html
Overall excellent reliability records and resale value. see consumerreports.org, etc. I believe small % of overall of manual 03-06's have had oil consumption problems which is addressed and warranteed by Infiniti. I say small % because there is no recall, not even mentioned by most publications upon reviews of used models. AND i have not experienced this and personally no no one that has.

Thank you, oil consumption is an issue im used to with my s60, 2qts every 1k miles so im used to that.
Im just gonna hold out for the right one, but it will be my next purchase!
pretty much dead set on a Caribbean blue 6spd coupe, but just a 6speed coupe with lowish mileage works. haha.

Sorry to piggyback on a thread, but I was just wondering, besides the oil consumption issue, are there any other major (or minor) problems related with G35 coupes? Especially the 05's with automatic transmissions.
Im driving an 05 AT, well, the car is great. Some minor problems like axle clicking, roof noise when I go over a dip or a bump. Axle clicking is pretty easy to fix and roof noise is not a big deal. But I hate the ABS noise the most, it is so annoying. It happens once every time you turn the engine on and drive but it is annoying. But so far, Im pretty happy with the car.
^^
the ABS check up happens is every car its just a bit more audible in our cars, I ignore it.
Oil consumption was an issue with the Rev-Up engines. Some of them not all of them. If still under warranty the whole engine will be replaced if affected.

There is another thread to read on that talks about what people hate most about their G35, you will find the overwhelming consensus revolves around the:
-seatbelts (drivers side rubs upper portion of drivers neck, something I had a problem with but was able to solve with seat adjustment.)
-Soft paint, many owners complain of the ease at which the paint is chipped, something that i personally realize i can't do anything about and shrug off, no matter how much of a perfectionist i am (have some touch up paint in my back pocket for any such problems, however)
-Not enough power: I upgraded to my G from a 127hp honda civic. My g is rated @280 hp, so for me its a huge leap, for others it is much less impressive
-Too much weight: Ill agree here, the car is heavy, as heavy as my dads bullitt mustang with 35 few ponies, however, i destroy him on country roads with multiple curves, this relates mostly back to the power/weight ratio
Overall the car is a fantastic piece of machinery, and it is absolutely stunning to look at. Ive been an owner for a week, but I had been a prospective buyer for over a year, and I still marvel at its beautiful design, the fantastic roar of the engine, and the immaculate interior. I would recommend to anyone to buy one.

^ I have to disagree with you about what you wrote about Power. Example: Our car is not as fast as 350Z because of weight. 350Z is much lighter than G35 but when both cars are on freeway, they will be pretty much the same. But hey, G35 is way nicer than 350Z. To me, G35 is even nicer than G37. Im not saying G35 is best looking but those are opinions from many members here. And 1 more thing, Japanese cars are not Muscles, so if any one likes Power more than Looks, go for Muscles. G35 is just not a right car.
. And Carfax will NOT show us everything about the car, the best way is to take a mechanic with us and let him check the car.
