oil change and warranty Q

Re: oil change and warranty Q
Good question. If you can prove that you've been changing it at the appropriate intervals, it probably won't. And doing something like that doesn't just "void" your warranty. For example, if your power seat stops working, the dealership isn't going to blame the oil changes on it. Unless they can prove that a certain modification or a lack of maintenance in some way actually caused the problem, they have to fix it for free.

Common for people to try to create receipts [make up] or just use a credit card statement.
The factory can reject engine warranty without real receipts showing date vin, tag, vehicle descriptions every 90 days from a reputable vendor if say the engine fails from sludge.
The dealer is just a repair shop with a contract with the factory, the are the factory agent [but they have nothing to do with whether the factory honors the warranty. They report what they see and what service records they have.
Your car has a Master Computer Record that the Factory maintains and all dealers can access and add to as they perform services/repairs. This record is the basis for warranty.
Failure to show an oil change at least every 6 months 180 days is grounds to reject engine warranty but they rarely do so as most don't fail [even if abused] in the 70,000 mile warranty period.
What I would worry about is excessive oil use at 50k and trying to get a new engine without good documentation.
The dealer never goes to bat [asks for special warranty consideration] for owners who don't spend money at dealership for services.
The dealer is in business to be paid by you or the factory.

Re: oil change and warranty Q
Buying oil and filters [at a store] is not proof it was changed or changed correctly. It could have been used on another car, resold, still in garage.........see the proof problem.
Video tape with witnesses isn't as good as the Factory data record entered by dealers which is automatically accepted as proof.
