Why do 06/07 G coupes look good w/o spoilers, but the previous years, not so much?

Why do 06/07 G coupes look good w/o spoilers, but the previous years, not so much?
Did they change the trunk style? Or is it the tail light change?

G oem spoilers, are seriously the most horrendous spoilers made for such a nice car. It's like they meticulously designed the G, then said last minute, hmm, ****, lets just slab this left over gob of plastic on to the trunk for effect, "kids like spoilers".
I like my spoiler. I took it off when I first bought my car thinking that it would look cleaner, but I think with the more 'conservative' styles of the bumpers/skirts/rear valence on the 04's, it just puts a nice edge on the rear. Needless to say, it's back on.

IMO, if you squint...without a spoiler, you can accidently mistaken it for a mercury cougar

but to the OP, I know what you mean. The 06 and up does look beefier in the rear with or without a spoiler than the 03-05. Although it might be the taillights OR my best guess...some rear splashguards that adds to the overall look. Sometimes the splashguards are overlooked.

I agree that the 2006 spoiler looks more subtle than the 03-05 board. In fact, I've been looking around to see if OEM or aftermarket replica 06 spoilers will fit on my 03 coupe.
