Hidden 12" Sub Installation w/ Pics!
I recently ordered 2 new products of the Memphis Audio Line. The 12" S-Class woofer (500W RMS/1000W Peak) and the S-Class 500W amp. I wanted to keep the sub hidden because of the limited trunk space in my G so I was taking a chance going with the bigger sub (12" over the 10"). I've heard a lot of people say they cant find room for a 12" without building a box and taking up more space. Here is a little picture play-by-play of the simple installation.
I started by taking out the trunk net, carpet mats, and the spare tire.
Then I took measurements of the inside area of the spare tire and used them to cut a piece to mount the woofer to. (Remember, nobody will be seeing this part)
I put a coat of black spray paint on the wood. While it was drying, I mounted my amp on the back of my seat.
When my paint was dry, I mounted the woofer inside the open hole and screwed it in. I used rubber weather stripping found at a hardware store to seal the edges of the wood and keep it from rattling against the metal rim. The weight of the woofer and the trunk mats keep it from moving around. The weather stripping also creates a tight fit. The inside of the rim creats something sort of like a ported box. It might not produce the absolute best sound quality, but I sure can't tell a difference. It sounds perfect to me.
I put the spare back in and the completed assembly inside the rim and eventually covered it with the carpet. It looks...and sounds great!
Let me know what you think!

This is pretty sweet. I didn't really want a sub because of space restrictions but I'm definitely doing this.
Question, how shallow does the sub have to be? I looked up your specs and it's 3". Did you have more room than that or is that the cut-off?
