Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah!!?
Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah!!?
Ok, first off, no offense intended.
Quick background, I have a 2001 330ci and am selling that to get something different. I need an auto and thought I wanted a sedan. I was set on the new TL for a while, I love that car's features and interior. I checked out the G35 sedan today and liked driving it. So I took my fiance by the Acura and Infiniti dealerships. She liked the TL, thought it was nice. When we got to the G35, she didn't think much of the sedan(and I agreed) but took one look at the Coupe and loved it! To tell you the truth, I have always loved the G35 coupes. I almost traded my car in last year for one. Anyway, so this has brought the G35 coupe into the picture now. I think the exterior of the car is gorgeous, but the interior...well, it's not so gorgeous. It's okay, but I definitely like the TL and even my 330ci's(w/ NAV) interior better. I hate the pop-up NAV and the radio and hvac controls look cheap. If the G35 coupe had the TL interior/NAV, I would be driving it right now.
So anyway, what's your opinion on my situation? What do you think? Anyone else feel this way?
Thanks,
-Brandon

PRICE......
Infiniti wanted to keep the cost down to spank the BMW 3 series and other worthy competitors.
They ought to come up with a "custom" interior option that you could add to the care to make it more plush.

Don't get the factory navigation and do the double-din dash conversion and get navigation in there. That way you'll have navigation, but won't have the pop-up and you also won't have the stock radio. Then the only thing you won't like is the HVAC controls.

Wait a couple of months for the '05 model to come out. One of the biggest changes (although it apparently isn't a radical one) is the interior redesign. It's been updated to address some of the quibbles you (and others) have complained about.
Re: Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah!!?
i went from an Audi (best interiors in the biz) to the G coupe and couldn't be happier. The interior may not be top notch luxury, but that isn't what the G coupe is all about. listen to the exhaust note and any thoughts of the interior go away immediately.
Re: Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah!!?
Honestly, I think all this talk about the G35c's interior being bland is BS.
No car is perfect, but the mags have to find something to quibble about to give the appearance of objectivity. The G35c offers excellent performance & style for the money, so the mags have to criticize something. Back in the day, mags barely ever mentioned int, it's just a new thing, another area they can critique.
IMO, most people who say the G35c's interior is bland say so only after reading mags criticize it, they only make up their minds about the interior after a mag tells them what to think. I'm not saying the G35c has an excellent interior, but it ain't bad at all.
From reading mag interior scores (ie in comparos), the M3 always gets 8 or 9, better than the G35c. I spend a lot of time in my friends 02 M3, & there isn't any perceptible quality in the int materials. They don't look more expensive, but they do feel higher quality.
That's really what mags mean, that the materials are softer to the touch, or not hollow, etc, not that they look more expensive (most of the time). But what difference does that make, that the plastic is softer touch or not hollow? Does it really matter or affect the overall ownership/driving experience in any way?

I agree that G35C is a driver car, but I would expect an interior that is better than that. I also expect it has more features although I dont expect to be as good as Acura TL. TL is the best in that area in the compact sedan class.

The interior of G35 is good looking, cheaply made. But compare it to the 350Z's and it wins hands down.

If you'r looking for a family car TL is the car to go with.
As someone mentioned G35 is a driver's car. (Never going to get the perfomance in TL)

Re: Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah!!?
There are only a few things that i would ever change on the interior. 1. The plastic door trim mapholder/cupholder piece feels very cheap and eclipse-ish(no offense cause I used to drive one). 2.I like the "aluminum" center console (reminds me of an AM vanquish) but the finish has got to be more durable. 3. Maybe the plastic center console could have a better feel to it but that's about it. Yeah a leather trimmed dash and alcantara headliner would be pimp but this is not an S600.

I bought my G35 for the beautiful styling and performance, interior was one of the least on my list of worries. Either way I'm satisfied with this interior on this car.

Re: Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah
One of the reasons I bought the G was because I liked the interior. I liked the brushed aluminum look, liked the curved ac vents, liked the amber, liked the pop-up nav, liked the way the center console flows down in one piece, liked the reclining back seats, liked the buttons, I could go on - I love the thing. But then again I also really like airplanes and it's more like a cockpit than a sofa. All depends on what your into. I appreciate the Acuras, Audis, BMW's, Cadillacs, there all great...I just liked the G the best and when I saw the interior I bought it the same day.....it's allll goooood.
Re: Why does the G35's interior have to be so blah
The G interior is cheap. It creaks and rattles because they use so much hard plastics. The interior of the TL is hands down better. If you like to touch interiors, you should go for the TL.
As for me, I don't notice the interior too much as I'm looking out for cops as I whiz by people in the fast lane =)
