I have a paint question.

here's my situation. My cousin/roommate backed into the G.

Car looks like this:

I'm kinda ok with it cuz his insurance is replacing the bumper which already had these scratches in it when i bought it.

Here is my question:

i asked the body shop to paint the section over the tail pipes satin black. he says the bumper comes in black so he'll just mask off that section and leave it black.

Do you guys think that will look good?

Yes.

Although ... I'm no paint expert but wouldn't the already-black section need to be painted again anyway?

^Word. Have them paint it a gloss black, and not just the non-painted, non-primered black plastic.

It doesn't need to be painted if it is in fact black from the factory. Since it is urethane it doesn't need a protective coat over it like metal does. I would look at the bumper before they paint it to make sure you are happy with the color it is before paint. If you don't like it or want more or less sheen, have them paint it. If you like it, it defintaley doesn't NEED to be painted.

They dont need to paint it black. The "E" coat is very good, but imo you might want them to because it will look like flat black primer witch has to much orange peal, ect.

i like this idea.

new question:
is there such a thing as less glossy clearcoat?
because i was told they could paint it satin black but it would end up looking gloss after the clear went on.

^Ok they dont sound like they know custom paint imo. Most good clears can be "matted" that means you take the gloss out. I can matt mine 33% and then its FLAT or 1% an you wont even notice. So they need to clear the hole bumper and then mask off the black area and spray a flat or matt clear just in that spot.
