Greetings from the midwest (MO)...first post so be gentle.

Looking at a well-maintained '03 Coupe, 5AT, 56K miles. New tires, new brakes.

The main things I've found regarding annoyances with the early-model G35's are (don't hold me to these):

1) Short brake rotor/pad life before needing resurfacing/replacement.
2) Axle clicking (seems to be a fairly easy fix for this with better lube?).
3) Synchros going out on manual transmissions.
4) Various squeaks and rattles around the interior.

Anything else you would like to throw out at me to look for would be appreciated. I've always owned domestic so am trying to learn as much as possible to make an informed decision NOT based solely on looks (it would already be sitting in my garage is that were the case!).

I wrench on my own cars and was wondering if a G35 would be any more difficult to maintain (oil changes, brakes, etc.) than a domestic coupe. I'm sure parts would be more expensive but hopefully not too much.

Thanks.

leaking valve cover (pull the coil packs on the spark plugs to check if there is oil), CD/radio problems (stuck CDs, drivers side speaker not working), power window motor failure.

Welcome to Driver Harry....!
Harry, I've owned and driven Nissan products since my first 510 way back in '72 and they're great cars. Yea we had brake issues but they can be solved by buying/installing aftermarket pads. Maintenance is easy and anything you don't know about the answers can be found here by doing a Search. We even have install vids so you can see how to change things like cabin filters. Find your G and join us you won't be sorry....

Sounds good. He's a little high based on some of the awesome deals other members have apparently received on here so I'm not sure. He's already rejected three offers on it so I'd say he won't bargain much. I suppose $1,700 in new tires and brakes are worth a little extra though. It's been in his family it's entire life too which is good to hear.

Agreed...from what I've read during my short time on these forums. What would you think is fair price to start negotiations if we consider the car is mint with zero problems?

16k for a 03 G35 Coupe is overpriced,
if you look hard enough you can find probably an 04-06 G35 coupe
for that much.

id say offer him $12-$13k or just keep looking

Yah, there's no way he'll drop $3-4K. Sounds like I need to keep looking.

KBB shows $15,100 so he's not too far off. He came down a few hundred frrom his advertised price when I spoke with him so maybe he would come down more. I don't know where you guys are finding your's so cheap but kudos to you! I haven't found many on AutoTrader in "excellent" condition for much less than $15,000 and dealers in this area are even in the $18K's! I'd prefer not to buy one from a "fly by night" car lot where they know nothing about the car. This guy knows the entire history which is pretty valuable.

Really, it's worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. If you love it and can afford it, spend whatever you are comfortable with. Just know that unless you hold onto it for a while you will probably end up losing your @$$ when you go to get rid of it.
