what is your 1/4 time for you guys
Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
14.5XX @ 98.6 (I think) with Crawford V5, Z-Tube & P/C, RT Cats. 2004.5 G35C-6MT. Runs done in FL (June) temp in the high 80's and humidity was insane, ~100' above sea level, VDC off, ~30psi on all 4 corners.
I think you should have people mention 5AT or 6MT, the location, temp, humidity, elevation, etc... These are all variables that can contribute to a 0.5 second difference (or so I've been told at the track).
<font color=blue>The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!</font color=blue>

14.22, 55 degrees F, 400 above sea level, 8 MPH wind off my left nose at 045 degrees. Bone stock.
14.03, mid 80s, same road, no wind with listed mods (corrected for temp, humidity, and barometric pressure).

14.55 @ 97.?? MPH
5AT, Z Tube, 18" OEM rims with Pilot Sports, Pop Charger, Hotchkis Sways (not that they would really help), and no spare tire.
It was pretty hot out that day, like high 80s with low humidity. Gotta love Maryland International Raceway.
Live in the MD/DC/PA/VA area?

Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
okay i got another question, on my time slip it says relative humidity at 55 and absolute barometer at 29.92 and temp at 77 and i got a 14.230. What should my real time be? Thanks
Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
zenon, what do you mean by saying "real time". Your real time was 14.230 seconds right? Please don't tell me that there is a correction factor that is used to help improve people's times.
I ran a 14.5xx but since it was hot, humid, I was at "y" feet above sea level, I am an "average" shifter, my tire pressure was "z" below factory recommendation... "so I ran a 12 FLAT!"
That would be just too funny.
And I realize that the above variances make people get different times, but how could an equation take into consideration enough of the variables to be believable?

neff, there are calculation for elevation, but I'm not aware of any for temp and humidity. For instance, a 14.9 run at LACR equates to a 14.1 at sea level according to the findings of Clint (THX723) and Gurgen with their G-Tech Pro Comp.

Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
sorry probably evlvation i suppose. For sure i know it was not at sea level.
Another thing, i find it pretty childish for one to make fun of another due to some mis-lead information. I would not be asking any sort of questions if i was a pro or expert. But the fact that i am asking a question should automatically infer that im a newbie at the tracks so i do not know all the knick and terms and whatnot.

Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
There are formulas for density altitude which factor in dew point/temperature spread, altitude, temperature.
Here are a couple of good links where you can play with the values.

http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/corr_dew_point.php
http://www.csgnetwork.com/densaltcalc.html
The reason to "correct" times is to compare what someone in Denver did on a 95 degree day with what someone in Charleston did on a 55 degree day. The environment will drastically change your times and if two people are going to compare what mods may have done what, it may be appropriate to "correct" your times the same way dynos "correct" or "standardize" their outputs.
I won't even pay attention to a dyno or timeslip without knowing this information as it's practically useless information without it.

Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
here is a for instance:
dragstrip commerce, ga. elev = 1150' best run 14.39 @ 97.xx mph
next week road trip 250 miles south - same temp, same setup in car:
dragstrip reynolds, ga. elev. = 350' best run 14.03 @ 99.xx mph
I was 15.3 hp over my baseline stock hp.
btw, rugratcoupe had a 13.86 @ 101mph in reynolds on street tires.

Re: what is your 1/4 time for you guys
xenon, obviously I didn't know about the correction equations either. I just am saying that there are too many independent variables besides temperature or elevation that come into play. If someone like -fish (a person that I hold in high regard) posts links and people like Randys_G and Gurgen (2 other people I hold in high regard) do timed runs in multiple places that is GREAT, but that doesn't mean that there is any scientific equation that is anywhere near accurate that someone can use for comparisons, right? Am I wrong or missing something?
Maybe I'm missing something here, but things like...
track prep (all the way down to which lane you ran in)
temperature combined with humidity
altitude
local winds (a 30 mph tail wind would be nice, right?)
all have affects on the final run. I'm intentionally ignoring the variables related to the cars and the drivers skills (I'm sure that's what you're looking to compare), but the other variables make any comparison kind of iffy at best, right?
Again, all I was saying is that I'm not sure how an equation could be used accurately to make comparisons, that's all.
And why is it that people take posts so damn personally? I went back and re-read my post three times and don't see how someone could have been offended by anything I typed. The "pretty childish" comment has me thrown for a loop. If you thought the comment was childish, just ignore me like everyone else does . The peace pipe is loaded, lit and offered... The old puff, puff, give... ya' know?
