05+ is the way to go
All G35's have potential to have OC problem. I've seen AT and 6MT. They also aren't limited to just Rev up engines. 05+ interior rocks compare to the older version. Just overall better.
I personally feel like I got the best year. Wouldn't prefer the 03/04 or the 06/07 model but its about what you like.

OK... I was considering backing out of my pending purchase of an 05 g35 coupe with all the problems (eating tires, oil consumption MT only??, oil in spark plugs) that I have read about on these forums, but everyone responding to this question seems to be saying the 05 if the way to go.
I am looking at a 05 g35 coupe, automatic transmission, 25k miles for $18.8k.
Would you guys recommend this car (in terms of reliability) or is it going to be more trouble than it is worth?
One other note the closet infiniti dealership (for warranty work) is 2 hrs away

Price-wise, it sounds solid.... assuming you can get it a notch under 18k

I was able to push the stock bridgestone tires to 24k miles and replaced them with falkens which still have plenty of meat left in the tread (probably just half its life)
I bought my car new at the end of '05 from the factory so I assume they fixed all the bugs by the time I took delivery of my car.
I personally think it has great reliability, not perfect, but what car is? I had my old 1996 Infiniti I30t that lasted me 240k miles without any problems but I know people who did. I think it's just a matter of how well you take care of the car and being aware of the possible problems and keep an eye out for them. I plan on keeping my car as long as I had my I30t, just make sure you know the maintenance history for the car you are looking at...

I had on 05 loaded with everything, id say the only problem it had was that dang clutch rattle, but of course its common with G's.
Get this you drive normal, oil wont go away as much
You drive fast and hard, make sure you check your oil because it will go away from being burnt up
I drove alot when I first got it, taking it around town and through the canyons and it consumed alot, when it was low it would sometime rattle in the engine. I then got slapped with the noob stick and checked my oil often whenever i drove the canyons alot.
Then when that phase went by and I started driving like a typical chinese driver, my oil never burned up as much as it did, in fact it didnt even seem to burn up at all.
My car was at 85k miles and still running just as strong as the first day I got it(note that I changed the oil every 3k-5k miles, cleaned the filter and did all the necessary maintenance to the tranny and diff with LUCAS gear oil)
In my opinion 05 looked best interior wise, and on the outside as well. I dislike the angled rear backup lights but then thing I would say I wish I had on the 05 were the projector headlights.
Thats it, hands down, 05 wins.
Take care of the car, and the car will take care of you.........
Also considering that you might be a "driver" I wouldn't choose auto because the foot ebrake. You cant do 180s without the hand ebrake =D
