If it was hot out that day, that will make your car slower, and the added weight of your passenger and his luggage will definitely make the car accelerate slower. You may even have a bad batch of fuel in the car.

Were you trying to really push the car to show it off to your buddy? If so, then you were probably paying more attention to how fast the car was accelerating than you would if it was just you alone. Those are just a few things to consider.
No, I was not trying to push the car to show off. I was in third gear and switched lanes to pass someone and it just did not accelerate as quickly as usual. So, later in the drive, when I was in second gear, I floored it to see if the car actually was lagging, and sure enough, it was.

I have had heavier people in my car before, and I could feel a difference, but never this big of a difference.

So I just got home from driving with the trunk CLOSED, and the car seemed normal again. Are you guys sure there is no possible connection? Cause it seems like there is.

could depend on the weather. I know my coupe is very sensitive to heat. If it's a hot day, the car will feel a-lot slower. But later on during the colder night, the car pulls all night.

Possibility? Maybe.

Temperature changes can be slight. I've seen cars loose up to 50hp on the dyno with minimal fluctuation in centigrade readings. Anyways, try driving with your trunk open and see if it happens again. Then maybe you can do a study on how the angular discrepancy between the trunk in its unhitched position could affect performance compared to the trunk in it's hitched position!

That would be an amazing find...

are you guys seriously even thinking about the possibility of a connection between the trunk and the speed? ROFL!!!! Hellllll nooo... its exactly what a previous post mentioned.... weather, even type of road, weight of the passenger, his stuff and the biggest factor is the psychological one.. I was in situations where I wanted to show off the acceleration and found it inadequate though my passenger was very impressed.. to me.. something was wrong.. at other times.. when i'm normally driving.. i feel it because i'm not setting a higher expectation... maybe.. just maybe.

put it this way.. if the car would accelerate "slower" because of an open trunk why not have that as a valet mode as well... or have the option to slow the car down when the doors are open.. why the trunk? COME ONNNNNN MANNN... (even if the trunk was to be completely open and stable, the wind resistance still wouldn't be enough to slow you down significantly when your accelerating.. unless you were going at really high speeds)

anyways.. it might even be bad gas..

the biggest factor in consistency with the acceleration is the outside temp
