Thats how far I drive to work and back home. I know you should change oil every 3000 miles, but thats about how much I drive every 8 months. So whats the rule when it comes to changing oil regarding time........3 months.....6 months.....?????

 

*personally*, I would go 4 months then go a Blackstone report. You'll know if thats too long or could go longer. Your climate and driving style will dictate what you can do safely. Youre going to be running *very* rich *all* the time. The cats take 8-12 mins to warm up. You may want to go syn to keep the flashpoint acceptable. (reason I run syn in my G and PF, short trips). I would say *for me* Mobil1 stays much less fuel contaminated than dino oil.

 

If you only drive 3 miles, you should bike to work! save gas, money, and pollution!

Very short trips like that will rust away your exhaust system (mainly the muffler) because the water collects in there but doesn't get hot enough to get evaporated out.

3 miles a day would probably fall into a category of harsh driving conditions. Ideally, you will want to get the motor up to operating temperature and drive long enough to burn off any contaminants in the oil. Namely water. I would say 3 months max would likely be a safe interval. Though, if you do drive longer distances on weekends and such, you may be able to go a bit longer.
