AC is blowing hot air

About a week ago my air conditioning began to blow only warm air. Even when I set the auto thermostat to 60 it still blows warm air. I'm wondering if there's any kind of electrical glitch that could cause this and anything I can try to resolve it. I've heard some people talk about low coolant. I don't really understand how the ac system works, but if it needed to be recharged wouldn't it have slowly began to blow warmer air rather than changing altogether in one day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know the approximate cost of installing a Cat back exhaust (Greddy Evo 2) on an 03 coupe?

Hahah the last line is completely unrelated to this thread, like you you slipped that in!

Try recharging your ac system coolant first, if the problem persists could be a few issues: your HVAC control unit, or some issue with your evaporator/compressor.

$50 bucks maybe at a shop? You'd have to inquire. Its pretty common.

mine did the exact same last year. i took it to the dealer (since i was still under warranty). they said that something was loose and they fixed it for free. but if they found some thing that damaged the lines or ac system, like road debri, i would have to pay for inspection which was a few hundred.

Check if your compressor turns on. have one person keep turning it on and off and you at the engine bay and see if it turns on.

First thing you should do is check to see if you have 2 belts on your motor. I had hot air blowing out of my AC, turns out the belt for the AC was gone....how? I don't know, but it was slowly shredding itself and completely vanished.

Generally you should noticeably hear the A/C click on when you hit the A/C switch.

Today I popped the hood to check for the condenser turning on, but it looks like my AC condenser belt is completely gone. It must have just worn away. Does anyone know where I can find the best deal on the replacement belt and what the install process is?

That's what I mentioned in post #8 almost a week ago. It happened to me, only reason why I mentioned it.

You can get the belt at Autozone or any other similar place. I'd recommend having someone that knows what they're doing install it...it needs to have a proper amount of tension.

my 2003.5 sedan started only blowing warm air, I dropped in in dealer today, and later told it needs a new compressor and belt for $1400. the compressor alone costs 1150.

What is my alternatives?? would it cost less at repair shops??
