Dead Battery after 3 1/2 years??

I went to go start my car this morning....and it turns out my battery is shot, I need a new one.

I purchased the car brand new in May of 2006.....and I feel that the battery should last longer than 3 1/2 years...

So doesn't a 3 1/2 year lifetime on a battery seem on the lower end??? Thanks!

Thats actually pretty good you made it that far. Most batteries only last about 2-3 years before needing replaced. Again this will depend on A. the type of battery B. Electrical usage without the alternator. You could get way more out of a battery up to 5 years or so, but i never bank on it! In my experiences it always seems like i was replacing a battery every 3 years or so.

3.5 years sounds about right, seeing as you live in a hot climate. A battery in a hot climate is placed under greater demand and doesn't get fully charged due to higher usage of A/C plus all the other accessories.

I had to get a new battery this month. I bought the car in October 2005, so the original one lasted me almost 4 years. After reading the responses here, I guess 3-4 years is normal.

3 1/2 years is a long time IMO, I had to replace mine after 1 1/2 years and my moms Murano had to be replaced two times within 3 years.

Hmm, I guess I was lucky that my OEM battery in my '04 was replaced just a few months ago....that's 5 years. No we don't have heat in CA., especially not in Santa Clarita....

I just replaced the OEM one in my 04 today. It didn't die on me yet but it was taking a while to turn over. New one cranks fast!
