Prospective Owner Concerns/Questions
Prospective Owner Concerns/Questions
My sincere apologies if this should have gone under "Buying & Leasing"
I am contemplating a G35c 6MT and had some questions regarding performance and reliability. Also in no way am I here trying to brag about my car. It's just what I currently drive and what I'm using as a baseline or reference.
I've wanted a G35c for a while as replacement for my 6th gen Accord V6 coupe. I drive the hell out of my cars. 215K on my Accord now and still going.
It's a lot here, so if you can answer one thing or everything, I appreciate any and all info you gentleman can provide. Thanks
.My questions/concerns are as follows:
Nissan North America
How do they treat you as an owner in regard to warranty work, out of warranty issues etc. Honda picked up half the cost of my out of warranty transmission after it blew with their faulty parts and paid entirely for another after that.
Mileage
How many gallons does the tank hold and what kind of mileage do you get? What kind of driving style do you have?
My 15 gallon tank and 40mi daily commute for comparison:
300mi - busy week (gun it to the next light, 80mph on Hwy)
350mi - average week (70mph Hwy speeds, some cruise control)
450mi - $4 Gas days (55mph, Cruise is nearly always on, lots of coasting)
Track/Handling
How does a stock 6MT coupe fare as a track or autox car? What does the steering compare to? The best steering I've experienced is on the C6 Corvette during an autox. I'm not expecting as close ratio as that but anything is an improvement over my car's wide/loose steering.
How is the OEM handling? Understeer? Oversteer? Neutral?
Have you addressed it using any aftermarket suspension components?
Long Term Reliability
My car had a known issue with the V6 powertrains which was the biggest problem I've dealt with. Most of the other problems (starter, timing belt tensioner) all came after 175K+ miles so from new to 150Kish miles, everything was solid. What (if any) are the issues seen in G coupes?
Maintenance / Repair
I know Nissan parts are expensive as is based on 300ZX TT parts. How is the G? Do you do basic maintenance yourselves or is there dealer sensitive stuff throughout the car? What are the most expensive issues? I'm assuming the clutch?
I guess that's all (for now). Again thanks in advance for anyone who can provide some valuable input that can steer me closer to a G.

Tank holds 20 gallons (5 gallon reserve)
- I get 18 MPG. Average driving habits. The low mileage is mainly due to waiting at lights
That's all I can answer since I'm out of warranty and haven't had any major problems, don't track the car, have only owned it for a few month (high mileage though 75k - so I would say reliable), and drive an auto so the high-cost repairs will really just be maintenance.

Well its hard for me to compare on the warranty, I havent had to worry yet
. But you'll get a 5 year 60k mile warranty bumper to bumper and I believe the same for the transmission (which is built heavier than your honda to hold more power, since a majority of the ppl beef it up).
As far as mileage goes I typically get 19 to 20 in town, but I've gotten 20/21 in town and on hwy, but fairly aggressive and a lot of mods. The best I got was driving home from the cities for about 2 hours and if I stayed at 65 mph I got close to 27/28 mpg.
I havent done full track stuff, but the twisties we have gone on the car does just fine with placement and steering. It feels very solid and predictable, I never had a problem with oversteer or understeer personally, but I havent been in a situation where I could push it harder like an open track. Overall I think the handling is awesome for being stock, definitely a car that isnt afraid to corner. Parts are expensive, but when you can compare the G35 directly to a 335i (give or take, relax :P) you dont pay quite the premium that BMW drivers pay for parts which is good. Exhaust ranges from 800 to 1200, cats roughly 500, intakes 200 to 300. Tires is where I get killed the most, but thats how my spiriting driving goes. Otherwise I cant think of anything else. I dont think anyone, or many ppl have their Gs over the 100,000 mile mark. So its hard to say on that.
