Is this noise normal?

I have a 6mt. When I turn the car on with my foot off the clutch I hear a noise, sounds possibly like air blowing or something. When I press my clutch in the sound goes away. Also, if I hold the clutch it and let it go pretty quick it makes a popping sound. I want to know what the problem is before I bring it to the dealer because they always give me excuses and say the sounds I hear are normal. Can somebody tell me what thsi problem is? I also think that before my car warms up that sometimes throwing it in 1st and 3rd feels notchy. It sometimes feels like my clutch isn't pushed down all the way. But it doesn't always happen. I'm starting to get pissed about the problems with this car. Does anybody else have the same problems? Thanks in advance.

Re: Is this noise normal?

IMHO, these may be normal things when "breaking in" your new car. That sound you hear is probably the release bearing spinning around near the pressure plate.

Re: Is this noise normal?

I have the same thud type sound when quickly releasing the clutch in neutral. The sound is probably as he said the throw out bearing.

Any transmission should feel more notchy before the fluid is warmed up.

One last thing that I keep in mind is that it's easy to get paranoid frequenting an internet car forum.
