*HELP* help with disassembling 07 headlights

I finally decided to do a mod and black out my headlights I have them out of the car. I understand from the DIY it is safer to remove all of the lights before I put them in the oven. Problem is I cannot remove the projector light there is a braided silver wire running all the way down to a grey box at the bottom of the headlight which makes it so I cannot remove it. I need my car my wed. so if there is any tips people can tell me I would appreciate it thanks!

Removing the bulbs is more of a precaution than anything. It's okay to leave them in. I've done it both ways with no issues leaving them in.

Not sure what DIY you are using but just be sure to set the oven to bake and not broil. Place the headlight on a cookie sheet with NO foil on it. There are lots of different temps used by many on the boards. I've always done it with the oven set to 220 for 14 to 15 minutes.

Good luck

the gray box you're talking about is the ballast. You may want to remove that too, shouldn't be too hard. I think there's three or four screws. The silver braided wire can be disconnect from the ballast as well. The connector on the other end of the silver braided wire needs to be twisted then removed. the xenon bulb is held in place by a clamp or sorts. once released, pull the bulb straight out and DO NOT touch the bulb. I hope that helps.

The bezel comes off when the case is opened, so you don't need to mask anything.

I don't know why people take the bulbs out, not like your oven is 1400 degrees. you're not going to damage GLASS bulbs before you melt the plastic.

Thanks!

Remove the screws before. There are three of them that hold the lense onto the base. One towards the top and two towards the bottom. All on the outer part of the backside of the headlight. Definately remove the ballast as money suggested.

Read the below link/thread if you haven't already. I'll get pics up into it one day I'm going to redo my headlights...again...in a few weeks and I'll try to get some pics then.

Read the DIY. It's fairly easy after the first time you do it. Getting the lens off the first time might turn out to be a little bit of a struggle, i know it was for me. But just remember, time is of the essence. Get the headlight out and get working on removing the lens right away... It's much easier to remove the lens right out of the oven then it is when you wait a minute or two to start removing the lens.

No trick to dust free. If you have a compressor, blow the inside out before you put the headlight back together, if not then just wipe it out with a microfiber towel. Just make sure you have finger prints wiped off too.

PM me if you have any questions because I've gone through these headlights more then a few times already so I might be able to help with specifics.

That's more than enough sanding! You just have to basically rough it up. Get rid of the shine. Now wash and wipe them down, let them dry and you are ready for the first coat of primer. If you have a compressor, spray some air around the projector housing to get any water that might be in there.
